The cricket might be canned in India after all. Covid bubbles breached. Players test positive.

It's understood one of the infected players recently went to hospital after suffering a stomach complaint, which is believed to be the likely time of infection.

The player isolated upon his return to the IPL bubble and returned a negative test but, 12 hours later, he and his teammate both returned a positive test.

Usa banning flights from india except for usa citizens and green card holders starting tuesday at 12:01 am, biden finally doing something good. We might have a chance to prevent the indian variant spread here now in big numbers.

Is this for direct flights only or are they going to stop people from connecting flights as well?

The novel coronavirus’ spike protein plays additional key role in illness. Salk researchers and collaborators show how the protein damages cells, confirming COVID-19 as a primarily vascular disease.

LA JOLLA—Scientists have known for a while that SARS-CoV-2’s distinctive “spike” proteins help the virus infect its host by latching on to healthy cells. Now, a major new study shows that they also play a key role in the disease itself.

The paper, published on April 30, 2021, in Circulation Research, also shows conclusively that COVID-19 is a vascular disease, demonstrating exactly how the SARS-CoV-2 virus damages and attacks the vascular system on a cellular level. The findings help explain COVID-19’s wide variety of seemingly unconnected complications, and could open the door for new research into more effective therapies.

“A lot of people think of it as a respiratory disease, but it’s really a vascular disease,” says Assistant Research Professor Uri Manor, who is co-senior author of the study. “That could explain why some people have strokes, and why some people have issues in other parts of the body. The commonality between them is that they all have vascular underpinnings.”

This may be what all this "long covid" is about. The virus is circulating in the vascular, or blood circulatory, system until it finds a vulnerable organ/organs?
 Quoting: Lago

I'm not an expert but possibly so.

There are other theories aswell one to do with autoantibodies and another that infection leads to reduced energy production in organs.

Boris Johnson says there is a 'good chance' social distancing can be scrapped next month

"I think we've got a good chance, a good chance, of being able to dispense with one-metre plus," the prime minister says.

"Ahead of Step 4 [21 June], as more is understood about the impact of vaccines on transmission and a far greater proportion of the population has been vaccinated, the government will complete a review of social distancing measures and other long-term measures that have been put in place to limit transmission.

Ok, except you can't truly understand the impact of vaccines on transmission bassed on a short period of a few months. Good luck.

As Singapore is almost zero local transmission for quite sometimes until this round of mass infections, more evidence for airborne transmission in Singapore.

Note: For full protection of airborne transmission, only N99 or P100 can protect you.

In the article it says they hope peer pressure will work to get more kids vaccinated. I have an image in my mind that parents of vaccinated kids are going to demand the vaccinateds be segregated from the non-vaccinateds within the school. This could really piss off the parents who don't want their kid to take the jab.

NHS faces exodus of doctors after Covid pandemic, survey finds

Thousands of UK doctors are planning to quit the NHS after the Covid pandemic because they are exhausted by their workloads and worried about their mental health, a survey has revealed.

Almost one in three may retire early while a quarter are considering taking a career break and a fifth are weighing up quitting the health service to do something else.

Long hours, high demand for care, the impact of the pandemic and unpleasant working environments are taking their toll on medics, the British Medical Association findings show.

Remember - this thing is a coronavirus. The vaccines do not give sterilizing immunity which means if you're hoping for herd immunity then you're most likely barking up the wrong tree. I don't say this to be a fearmonger, but to serve a warning for people to prepare for what's likely to come.

This guy, Leonardi, sums it up.

Proper answer is "I don't know", but in a attempt not to be boring, I'll go with "I don't think so". My understanding of the underlying process is shaky at best but it seems to me the actual "infection" stage, where the virus does damage is mostly limited to two-three weeks. There are extreme's where it's much longer and for most it's shorter but for a ball park figure that seems about right.

The problem is given that the virus can effect (damage) blood vessels, it can effect every part of the body. I'm still iffy on the viability of replication outside some of the sweet spots like the lungs etc. Even though the window for actual damage from the virus would then be short the cascading effects can linger and present with delay.

That might be all wrong though, if it even makes sense.
