So another fun fact about Lambda... it was first detected in Peru in December 2020, and it hit 80% of cases in April.

Oddly, new cases in Peru peaked April 10th and have been declining ever since.

And Peru is in the Southern Hemisphere entirely... they were entering fall in April.

The 7 day average of deaths there is at the lowest point since April 2020, and new cases will hit that point at the current trajectory in another week or two.

hmm

There's no bones about it, Delta is a nasty bug... but I think Lambda is a nothingburger.

What is it you're saying, variants mean every wave should go on for eternity, and if they don't they're a nothingburger? doh

I remember you said something similar for South Africa that they were doing ok after their second wave, which was an utter shitshow, just because that didn't last forever. A few months later and their third wave has turned out to be similarly hellish.

What should worry people when it comes to Lambda is Peru had a really high amount of total infections before Lambda arrived. Possibly the highest per capita of anywhere in the world. Despite that it didn't prevent Lambda from causing problems.
