But I'm pretty sure Lambda was running amok down there while Delta was still getting it's boots on in India. The first Brazilian women age 42 was pregnant and died of Covid-19 on April 18th so the wave seems to be delta already lambda is nothing |

A few months later and their third wave has turned out to be similarly hellish. What should worry people when it comes to Lambda is Peru had a really high amount of total infections before Lambda arrived. Possibly the highest per capita of anywhere in the world. Despite that it didn't prevent Lambda from causing problems. I don't know if the numbers quite back up your claim that Peru was that high in cases per capita, they peaked at 9,400 per day in a nation of 33 million. Texas has a similar population and peaked at 24,000 per day... given they tested 2.5 times more I'd say it was a very similar outbreak. What I'm saying is that Lambda in Peru was similar to Alpha in the US, one it took over cases started to drop (until Delta). And I can't stress enough... it's winter now in Peru and cases are still low. As a matter of fact, they're just about the lowest they've ever been. |

Peru doesn't have a winter :) They have the wet season and dry season due to their proximity to the equator. Their incredible death toll per capita is pretty much a giveaway that they have had the most infections per capita in the world for a country.... if you are willing to acknowledge that. |

Given 5m people, a life expectancy of ~80 and a progressive increase to now about 60% vaccinated I would have expected the number to be around 7-10k. The key thing to note is these are people whom died within 28 days after being vaccinated, there is no attribution to the vaccination as cause of death. The reporting simply mimics that of covid cases which is a good thing. Vaid Status: It's a small world after all! |
