Anonymous Coward User ID: 52923498 United States 08/07/2020 09:04 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Anyone questioning the legality should refer to the previous administration that set the precedent of going this route Quoting: Godzilla1980 From the Health and Human Services website: Under the Affordable Care Act, health insurance companies can’t refuse to cover you or charge you more just because you have a “pre-existing condition” — that is, a health problem you had before the date that new health coverage starts. They also can’t charge women more than men. [link to www.hhs.gov (secure)] Pe-existing conditions have been covered for ten years since ACA was signed into law. Who exactly is Trump trying to bullshit here? Not all health insurance plans are ACA compliant, primarily just plans through your employer or through the marketplace or medicaid will cover preexisting conditions. Plans outside of this did not have to cover pre-existing conditions...and rates were cheaper. But in recent years theyve gotten pretty damn expensive anyway. Only plans that grandfathered in. That is, individual health insurance policy purchased on or before March 23, 2010. Nobody would have one of those any more if they had pre-existing conditions excluded. So now, that's not it. Trump is blowing smoke. This is all bullshit for ignorant people who want to believe this is some sort of a "game changer". It's not changing anything. I used to work for a company that sold insurance, I quit last year because rates did get high, customers became increasingly hard to find. but still we sold insurance that excluded pre-existing conditions because the rates were better. A person had to qualify, but in some states it was far far cheaper than an aca compliant plan. This changes things potentially but not for the better, now if you’re healthy, have no prexsisting conditions, your rates will be astronomical. That’s how I see it... BUT ..... since obamacare started, those companies found every loophole in the book to still sell plans that excluded prexisiting conditions. They will probably still be able to do so... I dunno, glad to be outta the business. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78988607 "Over the next two weeks I’ll be pursuing a major executive order requiring health insurance companies to cover all pre-existing conditions for all companies," Trump said during a news conference at his Bedminster property in New Jersey. "That’s a big thing. I’ve always been very strongly in favor. We have to cover pre-existing conditions." Trump claimed such a thing "has never been done before," but insurance companies are already required to cover patients with pre-existing conditions under the Affordable Care Act. But hey, you'll have your pre-existing ED covered no questions asked! The upper middle class will pay more than they already are. ...and the destitute will still not be able to afford it. Winning! |

SCOTUS ruled that a President can rule from the Resolute Desk. It was the ruling about Barry's EO on immigration, and now President Trump is going to use the same tactic. It is now established precedent. |

The money will probably come out of thin air, just like where Obamacare got all their money. Quoting: GA 79108098 What will this do to premiums? What will it do to people's premiums who are not sick? Where does the money come from to pay for this? It sounds great...unfortunately we do not live in a society where you get something for nothing. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76017695 That’s the point. Close the bought and paid for loopholes. Breakup the restrictions. Make it a better more competitive market Trump claimed during his campaign that he would immediately allow insurance companies to compete across state lines. He said that by allowing insurers to sell plans across state lines, “your premiums will be down 60 and 70 percent.” Bait and switch. He never did that either. [link to www.factcheck.org (secure)] Here we are at the end of his first term and that never happened. Bait and switch much? |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 54576120 United States 08/07/2020 09:17 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Why? BY LAW, PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS ARE COVERED BY EVERY INSURANCE POLICY ISSUED TODAY. (with the exception of junk temporary policies that Trump allowed to be sold beginning last year) Because rates were already continuing to go up due to that stipulation. Trump's fucking around with the ACA - beyond the mandate which was a win to get rid of it - slowed the increase. This will set the rate increases back on a fast track now. Unless, of course, they get the ACA thrown out altogether. But hey, by hook or crook, everyone is going to pay more. |

It really was all a lie and Baracks name is Barry The only difference is the 'government' isn't forcing anyone to YOU to buy insurance, but the increasing rates remain because the government is forcing the insurance companies to cover everyone - which means, YOU pay more for the government still doing what you claim it isn't. Namely, forcing everyone to pay more for insurance. The only win Trump has made is to kill the mandate, which allows for those with the means to take care of themselves and their health needs as they see fit. This is a very small percentage of the population. For the majority, they're still fucked. So, maybe that's a win - depending on who you are... |

BY LAW, PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS ARE COVERED BY EVERY INSURANCE POLICY ISSUED TODAY. (with the exception of junk temporary policies that Trump allowed to be sold beginning last year) No there are exceptions. The only exception to the pre-existing coverage rule is for grandfathered individual health insurance plans -- the kind you buy yourself, not through an employer. They don’t have to cover pre-existing conditions. Trump is exempting nobody. So these exceptions are eliminated. |
