Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79240841 Actually I think they're cowards and extremely dangerous. I always make that assumption. ... What was illegal about it? "Belligerently" means what? In disregard of authority which does not exist? How fucking dumb are you? What difference does "legality" make when we are talking about human nature. You scare someone and they will react naturally. They are in survival mode. Not "legalities" mode. Are you 12? You cowardice does not impose on my legal rights Sorry. Yeah, frighten someone, put them in a survival situation and your family can argue the legalities in court after your dead. I'm serious. How old are you? If I knocked on someones door at 2 in the morning I would be fully expecting them to be armed when they answered the door and I would be respectful of that RIGHT, and I would not be frightened one bit. I've been around armed people my entire life. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 79240841 United States 08/08/2020 05:09 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The very first qualification for cop should be courage. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79240841 How many do you see exhibiting that quality? None? No, the very first qualification for a cop should be a 100% clean determination the candidate does not have any mental illness but most specifically Cluster B disorders and PTSD. Daily mental health therapy with a therapist highly qualified in personality disorders for a minimum of two months should be required during the candidate process and not the BS MMPI and "personality" tests. They should also conduct a thorough background check including talking to siblings and family, former girl / boyfriends, classmates, etc. And, when on the active force, every single officer should be in therapy for a minimum of two hours per week. Every one of them, no exceptions. Signs of PTSD then a mandated medical leave. Sound mental health should be the first qualification. . This is pretty much what the DOJ does now, but better. Throw in quarterly polygraphs and I think you got a real winning idea here! It sounds cumbersome at first, but look at the results we're getting the way things are now. I hope your line of work enables you to implement change or share these ideas with someone who can! Police unions won't allow drug testing or polygraphs. That is one of many reasons police unions should be disbanded by force of law. It makes the police above the laws. |

Anyone with any brains knows you don’t open the door in Phoenix unless you KNOW WHO IS OUT THERE. I live here and not a safe city in a lot of parts. The police here are good and they care. They unfortunately are up against a lot of bad characters and this guys stupidity and macho brainless moves got him killed. Also lack of sleep can kill a person and losing their job over it can make you insane. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73287988 He said “I can say it if it makes you get here quicker” so he was basically telling them no to physical. It was in direct quotes. So the dispatcher may be at a little fault. Opening the door with a gun in hand is: brandishing a weapon. Which is illegal. It is considered as a threat. Now if it was holstered, that would be a different situation. So this guy gets the Darwin Award, posthumously. |

I could occupy that hallway and just as much legal right to do so as the anyone who lives there, the officers, a salesman, or anyone else. The hallway in an apartment complex is PRIVATELY OWNED, the whole building is. When the police entered that building they entered the dead mans rented property, the hallway being a part of it he is legally allowed to occupy. The difference between him and a "salesman" is no one can tell him to get off the property. He is legally allowed to occupy the space. He is NOT legally allowed to brandish a firearm in the presence of law enforcement officials. I'm surprised how hard this is to get across. Define "brandish", shit for brains. Does "brandish" mean I have a gun in my hand, defending my own life in my own hallway? GET DEAD He was doing anything but brandishing Now he's an American hero defending his life in a hallway? Go to legal offices and read what they see as brandishing. It's not about the first sentence many of you want to believe. You DO NOT have to be wavin the weapon around in a violent OR threatening manner. Defending his life... You guys... |
