Turkish & Greek military mobilizations in the #Aegean & the #Mediterranean is very dangerous. NATO is not reacting yet at the level of a an unprecedented crisis between two of its members. US diplomacy should act swiftly to preempt a conflict that would engulf the entire region.

I hate to say this as an American and as a supporter of the president, but the US as the leader of NATO seems to be asleep at the wheel not only with respect to Greece/Turkey but also events in Belarus.

BREAKING: Unconfirmed reports that Turkey has activated its S-400's systems in light of rising tension in the Mediterranean sea. Locations of the systems suggest that they have been employed against Greek and Egyptian Aircraft.

Update: Turkish NAVTEX will be around the Oruc Reis ship, which will carry out research studies in the Mediterranean until the 25th of August. This survey ship will be protected with warships.

Both Egypt and Greece have said they do not consent to these "seismic surveys" and that Turkey does not have the right to use their claimed waters for it.

Greece won't fire the first shot, turkey will.

Will they take military action? Seems unlikely. Turkey calling bluff with their actions. Seems posturing to me. Probably deescalte when Greece and Egypt do nothing.

Doubtful. They put that ship out there as bait. Either greece strikes first or nothing. Greece won't strike.

While that is possible, conflict is beginning to look more and more likely at this point, and I certainly wouldn't charcterize al Sisi as someone that is bluffing his way through.



I don't know enough about the Greek leadership to venture an opinion.
