Earthquake NC!!!! Just now

M 5.1 - 4 km SE of Sparta, North Carolina.

Depth 2.3 miles

Actually thinking about the DUMBs map - had 2 overlays showing ancient and really fuckin' deep tunnels w/ one above it showing the tunnel connections. If memory is correct there is one from Atlanta to our mountains.

Am getting coffee in me, not firing on all 8 cylinders just yet but if shallow depth, makes me wonder if someone(s) is taking out these underground places.

On a side note....the last several days/nights, horrendous t-storms, shaking my place. Not your average storm front moving thru either. It's like a line that just continues to pop up and just sit on top of area, hardly moving. Noticed during my power blips last night that lightning strikes heavily concentrated in area right over the eastern Wake county batholith area that is ancient. Granite formation that is focus of a lot of USGS folks over the decades.

Four quakes so far, maybe not big one yet.

5.1 just now in Sparta. Felt it up here in Asheville!

We felt it in Jonas Ridge, NC, 14 miles from the TN border/

I'm 39 miles from it, I guess here in Caldwell/Alexander county border, up on side of mountain, rattled house.

5.2 in Mid-Atlantic Ridge roughly 50 minutes later.

Wow! I’m familiar with Jonas Ridge. Traveled through there all the time as a kid.

That job is a mess. I know the utility contractor on that job. All I can tell ya is Good Luck. They already contributed to one motorist getting killed on that job.

Looks like several small ones with the 5.1 being the largest. I happened to sleep in this morning (which I never do), so I slept right through it. My dog didn't even wake up. Most of the neighbors felt it, though, here in my section of NE Georgia.
