Everyone, including retirees and those out of work pay income tax either from a paycheck or at the end of year filing. Payroll tax is separate and is what pays retirees Social Security and partially Medicare. What Trump has done is to weaken an already weak Social Security platform, so anyone hoping to retire in the next 40 years better make alternate plans. Quoting: Kpduties 74495628 But wait a minute. What I pay in is supposed to fund ME. Not people from 40 yrs ago. So maybe you should think about who robbed SS and put it in the general account and used it to fund things 40 yrs ago. So needed your voice back then when the conservatives warned that the democrats were stealing from SS. SS was supposed to be left alone so that it piled continue to earn interest and not need new people to fund for old people. LoL. Just had a vision of a million geriatric March on DC. Not sure I'm willing to wait till I'm too old to march; I've had enough of the big government bullshit for more than my lifetime, my kids lifetime, and my grandkids lifetime. As far as voicing... well, you need someone up there that will listen, and unless you have a cool.million to open some ears you wont get any response, dem or rep. |

Notice the word DEFERRING right in the subject. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78250329 [link to www.whitehouse.gov (secure)] It is deferred only without penalty or interest. For those making $4,000 biweekly or less. Further action is required to forgive the deferred payroll taxes and that could happen but apparently needs congressional action. All here in English. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79245219 You realize most of what they are doing is forcing people into more debt, since they won't borrow voluntarily anymore. . Deferred. No employer in there right mind will pass this to the employees. There is no guarantee a business wont have to pay this back. It's an election trick. |

If you're 30, you've probably been paying into Social Security and Medicare for at least 10 years. Your mother and father and grandparents have been paying into it for 30 plus years. The SS and Medicare programs are projected to be insolvent in 13 years unless something is done to prop them up. Trump wants to defer money going into the program so it will be insolvent in less than 10 years. Sound like a great choice. LOL |

They wanted a bonus check for nothing again, you folks already get a tax-free bonus check every spring as it is. Working people get to pay in every year, on top of thier witholdings. What I got to do the last 2 years is say, thanks for the raise but put the entire rase to extra federal witholding so I hopefully don't have to write a check next year. SS checks are NOT going down - show us where it says that in the bill. |

SS is not a bad idea. The problem, as with any social program is TPTB end up pilfering so much of the money that very little makes it back into the hands of the people paying in. And this in a nutshell is why socialism has never worked. The greed of TPTB. If we could all keep the money we pay into it and invest it ourselves, we would all retire comfortably. But alas, the average citizen will just use said windfall to buy a nicer phone and more coffee from Starfucks. Then, broke, they will cry for more social programs to have the govt. take care of us with the money of the people that did save. Screw socialism. |

Quoting: Texas Dave So, if your Gross Check every two weeks is $3,000, you’ll save $229.50 or about $460 per month. Obama has a similar payroll tax cut back in 2011 and 2012, but his only consisted of a 2% reduction (6.2 to 4.2%) in SS. I agree with another thread posted by someone that said something big must be coming as this is a drastic move by Govt. They almost never have a payroll tax holiday. Some folks are fussing as this cut does “nothing to help the unemployed”. Well, I’m sorry, the unemployed are receiving a $600 weekly paycheck from money out of thin air to sit at home to play their TurboGrafx-16 (yeah, I went old school) in their parent’s basement. What it won’t help are the disabled and the retirees; not the retirees with $3MM in their IRAs, I’m referring to the ones living off $1,400 a month in SS like some of my relatives. we are in that category. I'm still lucky enough to have my additional job right now though so we have been getting by. There is a part of me though that resents how hard I am working at the moment while everyone else is partying their ass off. Also, I have friends that are completely assed out because they were already jobless and unable to find anything before this happened. |

The people who do need help are the ones who work for tips and now can only allow half of the customers in at no fault of their own - if i was making tips getting 20 an hour and full capacity now im only making 10 at half capacity - their the only ones whos income has changed - |

It's like everything else, we cannot agree whether 'the facts' are 'the facts' or not! This is really becoming annoying with every subject being delivered by two sides of the issue.
