Why atomic bomb when you can just firebomb all their cities, and homes made of paper?

Japanese were ready to fight until every last woman, child and man, at least the army leaders, many soldiers too

even without knowing, i'd say USA would nuke them till eternity until nobody would remain if they haven't surrendered

though fanatic fighters

forgot the exact number, but Americans were counting, in case of ground invasion, that would cost some 2,5 - 3 million casualties

that's why Americans used the nukes

Nukes are scarier. One bomb, so much devastation. Fire bombing requires alot of bombers, and alot of bombs. Scary, but not as scary as a nuke/atomic bomb.

Even though by the numbers, firebombing causing a higher death toll.

A convenient lie that has been repeated enough to become history. Before the first bomb was dropped, Japan was trying to surrender(conditional surrender granted).

Truman belonged to the "Cult of the Super Weapon".

They believed, that if humanity made a weapon so destructive, so terrible, people would throw down their weapons and rally together to create a global super state, and live in peace.

They had their weapon, they had their target to fire the weapon on and not look entirely evil. Even if Japan unconditionally surrendered, atleast one bomb would of been dropped on Japan.

Taking one island at a time was both time consuming and deadly.
The Americans made that option a second choice after the bomb was found to work.

It took TWO to convince Japan that the war was over.
That is very stubborn and shows their resolve to not surrender.
