So you get to decide which truth is true? I thought it was the people's choice do you have any proof either source is correct or accurate? |

KGB forced her to write such address and leave the country. However, now it is not already important. Belarus citizens don't have a choice and either they continue protesting and make Lukashenko to leave, or far more than 5000 people will be brought to prison. If protests survive till next Monday, they may have a chance. The target is very difficult because Lukashenko already involved army and russian police troup. Besides, at this point of time Russia and Lukashenko himself made everything possible not to give Lukashenko a choice rather then to join Russia. So, Lukashenko will fight protests by all means and sacrifices. |

Quoting: Tekton [link to en.wikipedia.org (secure)] Tigers don't change their stripes and neither do trained Communists/Marxists/Stalinists. Today it does not matter at all. In 1994 as some others I voted for Vyacheslav Kebitch and it was our mistake. It was necessary to vote for Zianon Pazniak. Next time I voted against all and then I never took part in elections. This time the Embassy did everything possible people don't vote, otherwise number of votes would exceed the number of voters. :( Hope you understand what I mean. Anyway, I still don't understand why he decided to lead Belarus to the East instead of to lead it to the West. Today Belarus would be at the same level as Poland, if not better. So, it was a big mistake. |

User ID: 79131494 United States 08/11/2020 01:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Just tried to speak to my cousin and my aunt again. Viber is not connecting. My aunt managed to send me a few messages, saying that the internet is down, they are completely cut off. She is saying her grandson managed to establish internet connection just now but she does not know for how long. She is saying police is beating people on the streets, grabbing them and throwing in jail. Jails and hospitals filled to capacity. She does not feel Lukashenko will go, the people don’t have enough strength to topple him. I wish international powers would interfere. But it most like Y will not happen, Belarus has nothing to offer. what a shame! People are there generally very patient unless really pushed. Even when Soviet Union collapsed, there wAs not any protests. Rose 111 |

It can even live with a Western-leaning Ukraine that is not too well-armed by the West. But if Belarus tipped, it would trigger a Russian response – first a political one, then a military one. Whether Russian troops, which are already stretched thin, can carry out a complex operation in Belarus – and do so with the right amount of force – is unclear, but they would have to try. Belarus is the tipping point. Lukashenko’s praise of the KGB’s work represents an assurance to the Russians that he has the situation under control and a warning to the West not to intrude. First, Kremlin tried to convince Lukashenko to create a common state. Failed. Then it promoted 3 candidates for elections: Tikhanovsky, Babariko and Tsepkako, but missed the target too. Now protests. Well people in Belarus were ready for a revolt themselves, but Kremlin is stirring them too. And those 33 private military contrators were sent to help. By his reaction to protests and police atrocities Lukashenko already cornered himself and in case of sаnctions it is very likely he will concede to Kremlin. As for Russia, at given economic sutuation it cannot afford another military intervention, because actual sanctions will look like a walk in the park. Oil embargo and disconnection from SWIFT will be a very severe economic blow to the economy. If the West adds a ban for export of some agricaltural products, this may bring Russia to its knees very fast. But seems today the West does not have balls. |
