Still, Putin required a translator because Trump’s incomprehensible bombardment of platitudes and frequent use of qualifiers such as “great,” “Amazingly,” “very well,” “bigly,” “incredible,” and “tremendous” boggled Putin’s brain, making it difficult to separate Trump’s witless prattle from substantive narrative.
“Greetings, President Donald Trump, I wanted to congratulate you on your stunning victory over that despotic woman—Hillary Clinton. Here in Mother Russia we celebrate your triumph and hope will all sincerity that your victory will usher in a new era of American-Russian cooperation,” Putin said in English.
Trump turned to his translator. “What did he say, in English please.”
“He said good job putting Hillary in her place and that he hopes you guys get along greatly,” the translator told Trump.
“Please call me Donald,” Trump said. “It’s a courtesy I extend only to my greatest friends. I don’t even let Kushner call me Donald. People like us, with money and power, shouldn’t hang out with, you know, the common folk.”
“You are correct, President Donald, fraternization and familiarity breed contempt,” Putin said in clear English.

“I had to make sure. Your translations must be incredibly perfectly accurate. Just this once, don’t call me sir, since I can’t tell if you or President Putin is calling me sir,” Trump said to his translator, then spoke to Putin: “Comrade President Putin, I want you to know I love the Soviet Union very much. I’ve had great deals with your people, and I want to fix the damage Hillary Clinton and Barack “Hussein” Obama did to our relations.”
“Soviet Union? Sadly, President Donald, we no longer use that vernacular to describe ourselves and rely instead on Russia or the Russian Federation. You are correct, the criminals Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama and their aspersions nearly caused irremediable damage to our nations’ discourse. I appreciate your earnest sentiment to restore an atmosphere of positivity between us,” Putin said in English.
“What did he say?” Trump asked the translator. “Maybe I should learn Russian.”
“He said thank you, and he hopes for the same,” the translator said.
Putin continued: “I know you are busy, so I won’t take your time now. After you’ve settled in, I would greatly appreciate a call so we can discuss America’s illicit involvement in Syrian affairs,” Putin said.
“The fuck did he just say?” Trump looked at his translator.
“He said he doesn’t like that the U.S. government and the CIA are embroiled in an unlawful plot to destabilize Bashar al-Assad’s regime and change Middle East landscape to a climate favoring pro-Western ideologies,” the translator said.
Trump blinked rapidly several times. “What the hell did you just say?” Trump barked. “What kind of Russian-English translator doesn’t speak fucking English. You’re fired! Get your check and get out of my White House. Someone, anyone, hire me a real translator that speaks English a president can understand,” he howled into the hallway, his booming voice echoing off the West Wing corridor. “Mike, get in here.”
