Corona was a dud. Sweden proves it.

Sweden didn't take extreme measures against corona, and as a result the virus was more or less allowed to burn itself out naturally.

At a cost, of course! There has been 5763 reported deaths WITH corona in Sweden. That's quite a lot for a small nation.

How many of those actually died FROM corona though? As opposed to just croaking because it was their time anyway?

Hard to tell.

But let's for the sake of argument say they all died from corona! And since the epidemic is now completely over in Sweden, we'll take that as the final corona death toll.

Now let's figure out just how bad 5763 deaths really is!

The average number of people who die in a year in Sweden is 90655, calculated over the time period 2010 to 2019.

2020 is still ongoing, so we don't know the final death number yet. We'll conservatively assume it will end up at the average, plus the corona deaths.

90655 + 5763 = 96418

This means when 2020 is over, 6.36 % more people will have died in Sweden than an average year. The final number for 2020 is likely to be slightly less since deaths were unusually low before the corona outbreak, but let's just go with the conservative estimate here.

Question: Is 6.36 % more deaths than average a disaster of historic proportions?

For some proper perspective, the number of deaths in 2018 was 92185, whereas the number of deaths in 2019 was 88766. In other words 3.85 % more people died in 2018 than in 2019, just from normal variations.

I can't remember anyone even mentioning the high death number in 2018, or cheering over the low death number in 2019. It's almost as if a variation of 3.85 % is a total non-event no-one gives a shit about!

This tells me 6.36 % can't be too big of a deal either. It's an outlier year for sure, but not by so much it's really a cause for great concern.

In fact, the reasonable level of response would be to note in passing that the flu season was unusually bad in 2020, and that's about it.

Corona was not a hoax! It was a bad flu!

But treating it as a pandemic of historic proportions was a hoax.

And dismantling the economy and throwing away all civil rights over a flu is sheer madness.
