Quoting: Grove Street we took a long drive around that area for the day.. it was bizarre we went into this shanytown where a small population lived. mainly trailer parks and really out there.. this was like 15 years ago.. Weird for sure. And that smell of dead fish in 100+ degree temps is something you will never forget. Mono Lake for that stink too. But never been to Salton Sea, just flown over it in commercial airplanes. I've been to both and confirm that they both stink. . Asking cuz my mom lives in Joshua Tree and haven't talked to her. I'm near downtown LA actually. damn, you felt it there? Shit. I felt some vibrations but no real shakes. I have a bamboo plant near my work desk, and the leaves were vibrating earlier for a good 5 mins then again about an hour later. Was a bit unnerving, haha. If I hadn't known about these swarms going on all day, I wouldn't have even noticed though. The bad news is nothing lasts forever. The good news is nothing lasts forever. |

Salton Sea is disgusting. I visited Bombay Beach a few years ago. Apparently it was a beach resort at one point in time, I believe it was in the 50s, when the sea was pretty. People actually wanted to visit and live around there. Now the sea is polluted, smells bad, and is covered with slime. There are also a lot of dead fish on the shore. What used to be a beach resort community is now a bunch of ruins, junky old houses, and trailers. This inland sea is a relatively recent creation. Somehow ocean water got trapped in there by a landslide and then it grew from the Colorado River filling it up....I’ll google it. There must be something under there also. Earthquakes start and then fade away. These are all continuous. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71088931 These are not earthquakes. Continuous battle? Do casualty numbers reflect that? I would expect some kind of paper trail, even if it's blamed on soldiers KIA in areas we're already occupying in the ME. |

Largest in the sequence so far is still the M4.6 quake. These swarms can generate 100s of quakes, but typically they settle down after a few days. [link to twitter.com (secure)] @mrbrianolson Historically, these swarms can generate M5+ earthquakes. Hauksson et al. (2017) studied these swarms & their potential to trigger the San Andreas. They concluded the stress changes from these events are probably either negative or not large enough to trigger the SAF. [link to twitter.com (secure)] The bad news is nothing lasts forever.
