China has taken bold initiative so far. So I think they may go for the cookie jar with a fast grab.

If you look at WWII, one big lesson is that both the Nazis and Japan could have gotten away with an early fast grab followed by offering peace and then consolidating gains.

Japan was backed into a corner over oil access so they attacked Pearl Harbor, so it is less true in that case, but overall still true enough here for comparison. Basically, if the Nazis hadn't attacked the USSR, they could have taken most of Europe (probably not Britain either, but instead of USSR, take Scandinavia) and dug in, and then after 10 years nobody would have ever been able to get rid of them.

When they blitz, I think China will not take anywhere near as much as the Nazis did in Europe. And that means if their blitz succeeds quickly, they have a great chance of getting to keep what they grab.

Obviously the big one is Taiwan. What else? There's sure to be a few things because it will be their last chance for a while. Will there be more than one amphibious assault?

As for political timing, I think it could happen before the election, if they're ready to go. Remember US polls are only inaccurate because somebody up there wants them to be. Scientific polling is not so difficult. So China likely has the real data as well. As they begin to conclude that Trump is going to win anyway, they may move before the election, which would surely be a surprise.

Also a blitz followed by peace strategy where Trump is stuck having to let go of some places might be considered by the Chinese a last chance to make Trump lose face and perhaps be hurt by it at the ballot box even though his opponent is Joe Biden.

China taking Taiwan may be like the Nazis annexing Austria.

It is possible the whole world, including the US, may do nothing.

Yes, I have come to the same conclusion. Do you know the sea across the Taiwan Strait is only permissable to an invasion from China twice a year because of typhoon seasons etc most of the year which is a risk to any amphibious assault. Those two months are April and OCTOBER.
