Anonymous Coward User ID: 77288913 United States 08/13/2020 10:01 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Someone's prayers were answered this morning. It's raining! Just a little, but this wasn't in the forecast at all! However, so far this morning the news isn't good. The Lake Fire is still at 10,000 acres (they're still trying to get an update) and "many structures have burned overnight." |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 77288913 United States 08/13/2020 10:10 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | That cat about says it all! This thing exploded after you left last night. Scary video at the links. Bill Melugin @BillFOXLA Listen to the wind really start to crank as firefighters fall back en masse. #LakeFire @FOXLA [link to twitter.com (secure)] Bill Melugin @BillFOXLA · 10h Winds picked up hardcore. Flames totally horizontal. Mass evacuations of firefighters falling back. I can genuinely say this fire just acted as one of the most erratic that I’ve seen in my career here in LA through all the fires I’ve covered. #LakeFire @FOXLA [link to twitter.com (secure)] Bill Melugin @BillFOXLA Fire tornado. Insane winds just picked up. Mass evacuations everyone is getting out of here. #LakeFire @FOXLA [link to twitter.com (secure)] Bill Melugin @BillFOXLA Guys this fire behavior is crazy. I haven’t seen one like this since the #WoolseyFire in 2018. The #LakeFire is a monster. @FOXLA [link to twitter.com (secure)] |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 77288913 United States 08/13/2020 10:53 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Here's the latest from CalFire (summary) Herb Cascadia Fire Season Herb @barkflight · 26m 7 a.m. official update on the #LakeFire - 10,500 acres, 0% contained - 5,420 structures threatened, three destroyed - Fire history in the area is nearly 100 years old - Extreme, aggressive fire behavior expected today ************************* Right off the bat, I don't believe that they only lost 3 structures so far. Those fire fighters are some of the best in the world, but that was crazy beast fire last night - so bad that aircraft were called off in Pine Canyon because it was too dangerous. You can see why in this video as the fire was moving down into Pine Canyon. There's no way to fly through that! [link to twitter.com (secure)] And yeah, this weather - I don't know what to think about it. It's crazy (but awesome!) that there's rain cells right now. That shouldn't be, but it is. So what the hell kind of crazy will we see later today? |

They're all breaking out along fault lines. People are just too stupid to realize it. This. Fault lines? Fires starting where there is a fault line? Heat coming from the ground enough to start fire? Dutchsinse called this out, and I think he is spot on. Fires broke out last week from Mt Lassen, then down by Tahoe, then down to Castiac, Riverside and other places all along either The San Andreas or other major adjacent faults. He's not sure if it is just heat coming up from the ground or methane getting released and sparking off. A local was interviewed, said it's weird how they'll get a spot contolled, only to have it start up again. . |
