My brother had a massive boombox In the mid 80’s and he took it to a Metallica autograph session. When he got on stage to get the bands autographs, the band was so impressed with the box, they asked him if they could use it for background music while they finished signing autographs. My bro stayed with the band on stage for the remainder of the session. When the band was done signing for the fans, they handed both my brothers tickets for the concert that night along with backstage passes. Ozzy was the headliner for the concert.

Priest were the bridging band between the early 70s stuff and the NWOBHM. Sad Wings Of Destiny is a masterpiece. Delivering The Goods is just crazy heavy for the times, and there's the rub.

If you don't remember what it was like before Sabbath, Priest, Maiden, Metallica etc. it's more difficult to get your head around it.

Having played a lot of heavy music back in the day, this is still my pick for the best, and a sheer pleasure to play. To think it's really a 70s tune and from the first album!

Maybe not the best of all time, but my favorite metal song from the last 10 years.

I was 15 in 1982...Metallica/slayer/megadeth-thrash is general was still somewhat underground. Glam was just starting to take hold.

But it was the big three...that truly ruled the world of classic heavy metal for those few years between 1981-1985

Judas Priest / Black Sabbath(Dio) / Iron Maiden
Coincidentally-Halford/Dio/Dickinson...the three best voices of the era.

And this was the Heavy Metal Anthem as designated by all of my friends back then.
