Colorado wildfires getting bad! Falling ash! Update 8/19: Pine Gulch Fire will be states largest
There's been a red hue over everything, huge smoke clouds looming over. The fire in the western slope is like 4th largest in state history already... The one here in the north went from 1000 acres two days ago to 3000 yesterday and 6000 today.

Not good at all folks. I'm going to be out in this ash mitigating just in case an ember sparks something. My yard happens to have the most dead grass.

Update 8/19

Pine Gulch fire grew to 125,000 acres and is only 5% contained. Last night storms made the fire grow by 40,000 acres.

I know.

Lots of people in these foothills. There's a massive amount of fuel especially with how horrible the beetle kill continues to be and with the very little rain and high heat lately. There's been a lot of lightning lately!

Lots of construction too.

Hopefully people don't get trapped in the big Thompson or Poudre canyons if things go too sour.

Two Deckers fires, Rampart Range Springs and Black Forest is a lot of disastrous fires in the last 15 years or so,

versus the 30 years before that.

The falling ash still has embers in it this is getting pretty scary guys.

Both vehicles in the driveway have ample ash on them and some of the ash burned holes in the paint! If it's that hot how long until a big field or lumber yard catches?

The fire in grand junction is only 50,000 acres from surpassing the largest in the states history. The one nearest me, the Cameron Peak fire, doubled again and is nearly at 11,000 acres. The one on i70 is now huge, about 45,000 acres...

Yeah it's presumably arson in the north fire. The huge grand junction fire was caused by lightning and the one on i70 was caused by a car accident.

Reading they think some of the fires may not be able to be contained until first snowfall. It was a bit better here today in the Foothills, but I think the wind will push it all East again tomorrow. I'm watching the Cameron Peak fire- closest to us.
