Are your trees dying or dead? | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 79282272 United States 08/20/2020 06:03 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I live in Southeast Missouri in the hills with plenty of woods around. But things are not fine. Yeah, we still have a lot of trees, but start looking around more closely. For the last 3 yrs. or more I've noticed way more sickly, weak, and dead trees than there should be. It's often trees that aren't old or anything. A lot of them seem to die from the top down. Some probably from pests and disease, but something about the environment is weakening them. I've been wondering about this for awhile, and the only conclusion I can come to is that more harmful radiation from the sun is coming through our atmosphere, and I'm sure chemtrails are not helping matters. The trees around here are actually expiring at an alarming rate. |

Last couple years it has been dying from the ground up. Now it's about bare a third of the way up. Very sad. That is normal if there are a lot of trees around it. No light is getting to the lower branches. Not a single tree around it. Used to be FULL to the ground, so dense you couldn't see daylight through it. Hate to see it go, like our Ash tree went a few years back, but it's a goner. Gave a lot of shade to the front of our house and that's going to take some getting used to. |

We harvested and sold select cuts of timber several years back. The removal of some of the trees caused damage to some that we left, due to wind damage and snow load snapping them midway up or causing the root system to be compromised during the winter thaw. At least we have firewood for the winter. But yeah, the Japanese bark beetle will kill a stand of trees in as little as two years and is a problem in many parts of the country. |

This year it had few tiny berries. One Dog Wood tree, wilting. I've been dumping five gallon buckets of water on it to try and save it. And a 3/4's dead Red Bud tree. Anonymous Coward User ID: 78310900 United States 08/20/2020 08:13 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Haven't noticed any oaks dying - any more than the usual one here and there. Pines - pines are an issue in much of the country because of pine borers. They are killing whole forests down here in GA. All you can do it cut them down and burn them. Don't mulch and put the mulch on your yard. They can be dangerous because the tree will sometimes still be green, but rotting in the middle, and then one day they just break off. But usually when you get a tree die-off, it's a heat/rain issue. For example, if you have a really wet season one or more years and then dry the next, you'll lose a bunch. Also, an ongoing thing if you are in a hot and dry spell over the course of a couple of years. |

User ID: 77999704 Canada 08/20/2020 08:27 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I started noticing the dying pine/spruce trees about 5 years ago. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78013725 There was a huge die-off then and another one happening now. Some can be attributed to lawn care products and some die due to heavy pruning (cutting lower branches off) at the wrong time, etc. The ones in forests dying en masse defy explanation. Mountain pine beetles and spruce beetles have been an epidemic for the last 20 years in British Columbia. We don't use a lot of pesticide in the forest, but we intervene at a critical time, disrupting the natural life cycle of the forest, creating the conditions for an epidemic. After clear-cutting an area, we plant spruce and pine trees because it's what the mills process. Poplar or aspen, fast growing, fire resistant trees, regenerate naturally and compete with the conifers. Sometimes we set them back by spraying the replanted area with a single treatment of glyphosate. While there are law suits connecting glyphosate to cancer, forestry use of the stuff is tiny compared to agricultural usage, we don'teat trees, and glyphosate stays in the plant, not the surrounding soil or water. While our use of glyphosate does not present a danger to humans or wildlife, it eliminates a stage in the forest's growth, where deciduous trees predominate over the longer living conifers. This makes the forest more susceptible to beetles and subsequently to fire. Pruning the bottom 12 feet of trees, doesn't hurt them. It prevents fire from climbing up the tree. Trust Trump on this one. |

I caught him with weed killer in a super-soaker squirt gun spraying my yard. Soon after that, my pine trees died along with every evergreen in the area. I don't know what he used, but I read a popular weed killer was doing this. He had an excuse, but it's just common ignorance for people to think they know what they're doing with these chemicals.
