My little Fox Terrier, Jewel, is going to spend the night there. Everything is wrong. Last night, she was reluctant to eat her food, but finally did. Today was the same, but other than having to go outside more often the past couple of days, no other symptoms until later this afternoon.I just sat down and got online, she got up, and had bloody stools on my floor. I called my daughter and we went right to the Emergency Vet. So far, the tests show an enlarged heart, fluid around her lungs, bladder stone, kidney levels off, enlarged liver, and possible pancreatitis. They got her on IV for dehydration, and antibiotics. They are going to run more tests. I will pick her up tomorrow evening, and will probably be bringing her home to die, the way things are looking right now.The Vet said Jewel could have liver or pancreatic cancer. My other dog, Princess, is extremely depressed that Jewel is not here.My daughter and I have been crying. Our fur babies just don't stay with us long enough. :( My prayers are spoken for Jewel, Princess, and of course yourself and daughter. I am inconsolable when any of my kittehs fall ill. If he must cross the rainbow bridge, know he will be there waiting for you. I am so very sorry. Prayers for you all. Life finds a way. |

Jewel is about 12. Some of you might remember when I adopted her from a shelter a few years ago, after my Sheba died. I know the outcome of this is bad, but I am glad I gave her the love, care, and attention, she never had before, in her last years. From what the shelter lady had told me, the people who had her and another dog, didn't take care of them. 23rd Psalm |

(OP) User ID: 79267566 United States 11/15/2021 07:47 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Just got off the phone with the Vet. Jewel is eating, and her bowels seem to be OK for now. She is still lethargic. They will do a re-check of her kidney function late this afternoon. He suggested the big animal hospital in Lafayette or the one in Chicago. Neither of these are an option for me, as the cost is way out of reach, and seeing what all is going on with Jewel, I feel she doesn't need to be put through all that. I told the Vet, unless there is a change for the better, that I will bring Jewel home this evening, and take care of her until she passes away.He totally agrees with me on that, as the best option at this point. Poor Princess is so depressed.I have tried talking to her. She knows Jewel was very sick when we took her to the emergency Vet. At least, if I bring Jewel home, even though her time is limited, that might help Princess understand better. Yeah, I am crying my eyes out. Thank you for the prayers. 23rd Psalm |

So sorry you are going through this. It's so hard when animals are sick or sad because they cannot communicate. Having Jewel home will probably be the best for her as she is comfortable there and with you. Also, having her home will help Princess in the grieving process as well. Praying for both of your fur babies and you as well. |

It would be great if they could tell you what hurts or what's not right, but they just can't. If it's an infections, the antibiotics might work wonders. Cancer's another matter. We've had several dogs with cancer over the years and it's different in any case, but the end result is almost always the same. But remember - we humans are the ones who worry about impending death. Our pups live in the now. They're not worried about themselves. What they want is what's good for you and to be with you. More deplorable all the time. |

If the Vet doesn't call me back in about an hour, I am calling there. They said they were going to re-run the kidney test at 5. I hope, at the worst, that it is kidney failure, as with a special diet she can live longer. It is a home-cooked recipe I got from an old Vet decades ago.I already went shopping for the ingredients, and am ready to make a batch if this is the case. Sheba had kidney failure and was given 1 month to live, and she lived over a year. Another dog I had many years ago, Dutchess, had kidney failure from heartworm medicine. I put her on a special diet for several months, and she regained kidney function. I am on pins and needles here, waiting for the call.Poor Princess has been doing nothing but moping. She is laying in Jewels small bed, just staring at me, ATM. Thank all of you for your prayers ! 23rd Psalm |

(OP) User ID: 79267566 United States 11/15/2021 10:31 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The Vet finally called me. Jewel's kidney levels have gone down. They were very high when she came in. One number is now almost normal, and the rest are still high, but not as bad, and have come down quite a bit. She appears to be in kidney failure. Her guts are fine now, no problems. I am putting her on a special diet when she gets home tomorrow morning. I will be cooking her food. As for treats, I got to find some low residue ones she likes. She can be very picky. The home cooked kidney diet for dogs was given to me over 40 years ago by an old Vet. I gave it to my dog I had then, Dutchess, who went into kidney failure from heartworm medicine. Here it is, if anyone needs it for their fur baby. 1 pound lean hamburger 1 can wax beans, drained 1 can stewed tomatoes 1 cup uncooked rice 4 cups water Add rice, hamburger and water in a big pot, bring to a boil until the rice is cooked. Add the wax beans and tomatoes and boil for about 15 more minutes. Let it cool down, and serve your pet. Put the leftovers in a tightly sealed bowl. The mixture will be good in the fridge for about 5 days. Give your dog the same amount of the home cooked, as you would their regular canned food. Depending on the size of your dog, the batch can last the full 5 days, or less if you have a big dog. With Sheba and Dutchess, it was 3 days, but they were big dogs. Thank you all for the prayers !!!
