The emergency Vet suggested that I could do dialysis at home for Jewel.There is no way I am putting her through that.I honestly would not do that for myself. So, she is on the special diet, and we will take it from there. Tuesday I will have to take her to the regular Vet for a followup.
I know from experience with 2 other dogs, that once the kidneys start going, they usually have a limited time. I was fortunate that Sheba lived a bit over a year with kidney failure, after putting her on a special diet, after the Vet said she had a month.
My old dog Dutchess, over 40 years ago, had kidney failure caused by heartworm medicine.I put her on the special diet, and her kidneys started working again, to the shock of the Vet I had at that time. She lived for several years afterwards, until she got cancer in her old age.
If your fur baby gets kidney failure, there is hope. Put them on a special diet, change their treats to low residue ones, and pray for them.
