I was looking at some house I bought in 1997 for $92000 that my ex talked me out of moving Charleston SC and it is worth $244,500 now.

They purposely make a certain percentage lose everything so that as few homes as possible actually get paid for. What percentage? Who knows, enough so that no one sees the con. If you have family/friends and know people you're not likely to be targeted this way. Smaller towns are safer but still possible if you rub people the wrong way.
