The uniform does not give him the authority. The government has given him the authority to detain and arrest if the officer determines that the person has broken a law or is a danger to himself or others.

If you are present in this country, then you are required to follow the rules and laws set forth.

Failure to do that and you are subject to arrest. Become violent and you can and probably will be violently arrested.
The fact that you will be arrested no matter what you do or think is irrelevant. Once deemed arrested by those given the authority to do so, comply or face the consequences.

The average citizen's compassion for the police is low after many decades of abuse, rude behavior, entitlement, malicious harassment, revenue collecting, etc.
