Quoting: Anonymous Coward 197006Too many pans on too may fires. We are probabely going to stumble into WW3 with everyone involved just making it up as they go along. Not good. This is the most realistic take on the situation in the Middle East that I have ever seen. EVER... |

We must NOT give in to threats by our "alleged ally" Turkey and abandon our Armenian colleagues. Also, we should not give in to the "Bush agenda" and defeat this extremely important bill. |

In an apparent retreat from their initial stance, influential Democrat John Murtha said the US was in no position to be thinking of moral values at such a crucial time because it is already suffering from a lack of credibility across the world. House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi, said on Wednesday the prospects of a vote on Armenian genocide were uncertain, after several members pulled their support amid fears it would cripple US relations with Turkey. In a White House news conference Bush warned lawmakers against further inflaming US relations with Turkey. Turkey's military chief General Yasar Buyukanit has warned the United States that the alliance between the two nations will be at risk if the House of Representatives approves the measure. The resolution's passage could also prompt Turkey to scale back its assistance in the Iraq war. Earlier this week, Turkish President, Abdullah Gul, had sharply denounced the resolution adopted by the US House panel and called it an unacceptable move by some American politicians who ignore common sense and sacrifice greater issues to petty games. |

Why don't you paint the picture for me then and make everything clear as mud. The point I am making is the timing is atrocious. This should never have been brought up in congress. For several years, threats of Turkey invading Iraq has been going on. In fact, during the time we created the no fly zones in Northern and Southern Iraq, Turkey was bombing the Kurds within the no fly zones. Turkey has been warning us and warning us saying they will not stand for it; but at the request of US they continued to take the beating. Now, once Turkey reached their limit, this crazy story appears. What the hell pulled this incident out of the air and doesn't congress have more important things to deal with? This happened a century ago, it was a completely different world back then. ^^ gravity is a harsh reality. ^^ |

This resolution means nothing...zero...zip...nada. It is a statement from representatives on a piece of paper about an atrocity that occurred 100 years ago. The resolution, or any resolution for that matter, has no legal teeth. It is an opinion. What purpose does it serve other that making "group A" feel better about what happened to their ancestors? Yes, thank you for spending my tax dollars on emotional appeasement. To further my point, this is a quote from the resolution: "We condemn all the genocides; Jewish holocaust, Darfur, Rwanda and all the crimes against humanity." This resolution is nothing more than bullshit political posturing. The very people drafting and voting on this resolution had their chance to prove themselves with actions in both Darfur and Rwanda. What did they do? Nothing...zero...zip...nada. They condemn but they don't do a damn thing to prevent or intervene while the genocide is occurring. The picture is brilliantly clear. . |
