OMG, how scary! I can't believe she was laughing! I used to do accounting for a tech firm that worked with the Bureau of Land Management. One of the land surveyors had been attacked by bear in Alaska. He had a perfect HUGE claw scar that ran clear across his face. It was brutal - but he lived.

You could not be more wrong. That bear was testing the fence, expecting the shock. Next time he'll take the free meat.

Folks that bear looks cuddly and cute. It's not. It's a killing machine with claws that could gut you and jaws that can snap bones easily. Their bone structure and musculature are massive.

It is a simple matter to carry a self defense pepper spray. The bears, for their own benefit, need to be conditioned to stay away from humans.

So why is this? Is it just about the blood or something tied to hormones?

There are videos that do show them attacking.

Seen some from Russia and Asians. Some think they can get a pic with the bear.

Also the guy that lived with the bears, his attack and killing was n=on video.

It looked like he was playing tag. She's "it" now.

Must have not felt threatened or had babies around. I would have figured her running would have triggered instinct to chase.

I just noticed houses up on the hill. I think this bear is mostly used to humans. Probably being fed by them.

Black bears don't eat people but they WILL attack and maim or kill them. She lucked out.

Humans are the apex predator, if they are allowed to carry the optimal weaponry.

I agree it look like a curious touch.

They are the most mellow and docile of bears, unless literally starving.

If not starving, they will attack if seriously provoked. Otherwise not.

I have walked right up to them WHILE EATING FROM A GARBAGE DUMPSTER and they usually just turn and walk away. Sometimes will just stand there calmly for a while looking at me and then walk away, or wait for me to walk away and then go.

Sometimes I have seen them encounter people face to face and they are curious and will sniff a bit or paw lightly like in that video but that is it.

Oh, and stay away from cubs. Mama is near by even if you don't see her, and she will run you down and rip your throat out.

The only thing that's incredible is the person's shooting the video inability to maintain focus.

Bears Lives Matter...

That species-ist hater should have given-up the leg to that hungry Bear.

My town's police and conservation authorities kill an average of 30 bears a year. When their population increases they move into urban areas. You can't move them back into the bush, because it can't support the bear population it already has.

Of course if people would follow city by-laws, i.e. not put their garbage out before 4:00 AM on garbage day, not hang bird feeders in their back yards, and not leave back yard fruit trees and berry bushes unharvested, we might reduce these numbers.

Personally, I had many uneventful encounters with black bears in Northern Ontario, but now I live where grizzlies and mountain lions also roam. I was once doing Tai Chi at night when a black bear walked right by me. I don't know if the bear thought I was Chuck Norris or if she thought "Loser doing Tai Chi can't be a threat, I'll just walk right by him."

People tend to forget that deer and moose kill far more people through vehicle collisions, then black bears, grizzlies, polar bears, and mountain lions combined. Of those collisions it is usually the vehicle occupants that survive and the deer that dies. In forestry, sleeping in any passenger seat is grounds for dismissal. All vehicle occupants are expected to assist the driver in spotting danger.
