The reality is that there were 10 times more cases of rape of French women in 2 months after the American breakout from Normandy than in 4 years of the German occupation. There was a somewhat prominent case after the war regarding the rape of a 12-year-old German girl. Seven US Army black servicemen were sentenced, by a military court, to death for the rape--they were clearly guilty. Eisenhower pardoned them. WW2 saw some very significant dehumanizing of the enemy--and it was not all from the "bad guy's". My Mom told me, that as a teenage girl, growing up during the war, she always switched sides of the street, whenever she spotted a bunch of our own Finnish front soldiers on leave. As they were known to be a bit, well, rowdy at times. Not so with the German soldiers, she said. Always polite, always correct, always well behaved and friendly. And therefore well liked by the town girls. That is why so many half-German war kids were born around here.  No, I am not one of them.
