Quoting: claircognizant_one It's always good and proper to give praise first which is not really asking much , all things considered. ~ And certainly helps if the need lines up with God's Will which is why it's important for us to have a mind of Christ. |

And it's don't pray like the hypocrites. Intercessory prayer is very necessary too, praying for someone else. Matthew 6:5 “And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. |

Later in that passage When you pray, do not babble repetitiously like the Gentiles, because they think that by their many words they will be heard. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. Can we both be right? |

I only pray to support someone, not to wish them to change. You never change things by fighting the existing reality. The prayer creeped me out so much as a little girl, what with it talking about dying while asleep and someone taking my soul....but I had a kind of fundamental awareness, even as a little girl, and I did not want to be saying those words. I mean, I told my mom I didn't want to say the prayer, and she stood there to make sure I did, every night, until my father made her stop. I only just made my peace with praying about two years ago, and I'm nearing 62. They become important, our prayers, when they're done properly.....but too many people just use them. My parents said that prayer with me every night also, are your parents weirdo narcissists too? I hated saying it. I used to often lay in bed as a kid thinking how messed up they were. Lord knows if it wasn't for their self serving attitudes making them think their status in the church would benefit them, I would have never spent my life seeking the truth. They are now both currently insane, I wouldn't trust them with a lawnmower, somehow I made it out without being a retarded psychopath. I'll give them their credit where its due, I forgive them. |
