Get a google Fi phone and a decent internet provider - the base cost of the phone is like 15 dollars a month unlimited as long as you are on wifi. And you have a cell phone if you need to take it outside the home.

MagicJack since 2010, it is the best & least expensive.

I can get my voice mail messages on my emails if I miss calls.

I even used magicJack with Clear wireless internet in 2010.

And I used this phone to do Customer Service over the phone at home.

It was no problem at all.

I have a google voice account I am using replacing home phone, I have spectrum internet I was grandfathered in at $29 a month, but it is so slow =
Internet speed test

2.25
Megabits per second
Testing upload...
3.47

Mbps download

2.25

Mbps upload

from my laptop in my bedroom, 2 rooms away from router.

I purchased the obi200 google voice box w/usb card to use.

To port my long retained biz number I have another cell to use w. an unused sim card (ting) because I understand google wont port a land line to their service, work around this way.

MY questions are,
with that internet speed, is it fast enough to pick up phone calls? (buffers alot on videos, but I am only using one device, not too bad) but does go out some too for short periods of time.

and from what I understand, google voice only allows one account/number, so I will have to use my older account?

Not alot of activity on the biz account, but dont want to loose calls. Have looked into many.....any ideas?

I dont want to get bundled into a service (att and spec are the only 2 providers it appears in lake county ohio) as no tv here. I use a iphone5 with ting and am happy there, they are NOT covered in ohio yet for internet, sucks.

:dollars: dont wish to toss huge amounts of money down this hole!!

Get an Ooma phone. $130ish at Costco. Dont pay for premium service, and only pay for Fed and 911/State tax monthly. Connects to your internet. Van connect to fax, printer, has built in voice mail.

I really want to keep the biz phones, do not like using a cell phone all the time, hence the obi200, i just wanna know about internet speeds, if good enough. but thanks, anyways/

seems they have some bad reviews too

I' definitely keep one land line if you can afford it. Today's political environment is so weird that having multiple ways to communicate is good insurance. One cell and one land line, or two cells and a land line might work for you. The google voice thing is useful too, but that's still google and can't be trusted too much.
