Surely a couple fires could be due to powerlines going down in the strong winds we had Monday & Tuesday, but what about the hundreds of other fires burning? FIRES DON'T JUST START...  The fire west of Eugene where I live that is still moving closer by the hour started hours BEFORE the high winds began on Monday evening. I was eating dinner on my back patio and saw smoke on the horizon. It was still calm out with a little bit of occasional breeze. When the winds picked up the valley immediately filled with smoke because the fire had already started.
