I was in high school and it was JROTC period. I was in uniform. Our senior instructor ran in and said we are under attack. The tv was turned on and the day stood still. It was surreal.

At work, 50 feet in the air on a utility pole. Ground crew member yelled at me to come down immediately.

Spent the rest of the day waiting for war to start.

I was in the kitchen of my first house and my best friend called to say that the WTC had been hit to turn on the news.

I was standing there watching the video when the 2nd plane crashed and i told him it was a second attack. he said it was same footage and i told him it wasnt. when we determined it was a separate attack I told him we were under attack.

While i continued getting ready i watched TV from the kitchen and saw the attack on the pentagon.

I worked in a call center and when the towers fell they turned us loose and i went right to my parents and spent the day with them.

9/10 I was leaving from Newark Airport and I remember looking at the Empire state building thinking what a beautiful day.

Next morning I was back home in FTW when the phone rang,,,my dad was a Mechanic at American Airlines at the time and said two airliners flew into the WTC in NYC.

I flipped the radio on first to hear a reporter at the main gate to Carswell AFB saying the gate was closed and numerous Humvees and armed Security Police were protecting entry.

My previously life kicked in and knew a coordinated attack was underway and said..."self, we are under attack"....

I was on the tail end of meth bender when my friend and I decided to go to Frys to get some drinks. As we entered the intersection of 19th Ave & Glendale Ave in Phoenix, AZ my buddy gets a call, its his dad. He told my buddy about what was happening. When we got to Frys we went to the TV section where everyone was watching the first tower burn. We got our drinks and went back to my place and watched the second plane. Then I was glued to the TV for the next few weeks.

I was working in my office, TV was on in the break room. I was the Solid Waste Coordinator for a three county area. Part of my job was condemning and having buildings destroyed. I had and average of about three building a week demolished for 20 years.

My first impression was controlled demolition.

No building falls in that manner naturally. It takes a great deal of planning and skill to bring a building down in it's own foot print

I was lounging in a hammock aboard a Turkish Gullet in the med after lunch ( Time Diff).
Got a call from brother telling of first plane hitting.
Then got second call telling of second plane hitting.
Got captain to return to port and then sat in a bar watching TV news with all the locals.

I can also tell you that all the Turkish locals were in shock and although mainly muslim they were not celebrating - they said it felt like an attack on the world !

The morning of 9/11 is not really an issue.

It was the aftermath that sucked.

Downtown New York City smelled like death from months.

Senior year on high school. Consumer economics class. History teacher across the hall came running in and said the WTC has attacked and turned on our tv. Rest of the day was a haze. Shock, disbelief...

Re: What was your experience on the morning of 9-11-2001 ?
I was 20 working at Target in Orlando area.
All morning long I felt weird. Like fluttering.
I worked on the planogram team with another guy resetting shelves and such. We had heard a plane hit the first tower just as we went on break. We were joking that it was an attack from Japan and there was a giant robot attacking NYC. As we sat on the curb talking and smoking a middle aged woman came up and said another plane had hit. We both got up and walked quickly inside.
In electronics we watched on every single tv as the towers burned. People were coming into the store just to get to the TV's and see what was happening. Easily over forty people standing there in shock mumbling, cursing, anything to try to make sense of the horror we were seeing.
My friend, the guy on my team, was next to me when they said the pentagon had been hit. He went ash white explaining his brother worked there as a guard.
He went to his locker to get his phone and call him while I was told to go back to work as best I could.
Numb I went back cleaning up the pallets and such off the floor. People didn't know what to do. Parents didn't know if they should get their kids or not.
I went back to electronics just in time to see the first tower fall. The gasp of all those watching still gives me chills to this day.
My friend got hold of his brother later that night. He said it was hell at the pentagon. He had been on the opposite side of the building when it was hit. He said he spent the entire day cleaning up the bodies and plane parts. When I met him the following January he had ptsd over it describing the bodies and plane parts in great detail.

I was actually 8 years old at the time and living in St. Croix. I was in class and I was actually in a private Catholic school. The teacher had us all pray for hours. I always thought there was something spiritual about me not being in the states at the time. I only lived in St. Croix for 2 months and 9/11/01 just happen to be within those two months. Strange coincidence but I think god wanted to exempt me from the spiritual aspect of the attack.

I was lying in bed in a small Cabin out in the bush north of Talkeetna AK when the radio started announcing what happened. All bush planes were stopped from flying. What a shock.

Getting ready for school. Saw the attack. Found out aunt was late and missed the train to work and she never missed in her life. She would be dead otherwise. Went to school.

They made us watch it in school. On in all classroom and homeroom. News replayed it all day. I know guys who later ended up joining the military specifically because of 9/11.

I almost signed up too in 2003 to get some payback on those towel heads, had talked to an army recruiter and was to go back the next day to sign on the dotted line but that night i had been on a myspace forum reading through some political threads and came across a link to Glp and a link to the 911 loose change movie, needless to say it was all over from that point on.

The morning of 911 i had awoken as if i had been shocked at the time the first plane hit, i layed in bed a bit wondering wtf and flipped on the tv just in time to see the second plane hit .
Just passing thru.

For me, I was living in Cary, NC, having just moved back from SE Asia.

I woke up, my new bride (a foreign national) remaining blissfully asleep.

I went to my computer and visited the Drudge Report. In the upper left-hand corner, there was a brief headline
in red stating that a plane has crashed into the World Trade Center.

Turned on the television, saw the scene, then went and told the wife.

This earned me a mumble and grunt, then she returned to REM sleep.

Went back to the TV, watched things unfold, then the second plane flew in. Daaaaaaamn.

Went and told the wife that a second plane crashed into the World Trade Center.

This opened her eyes...

Imagine being a young woman, newly married, living half a world away from you home country,
and you are suddenly under attack. This really scared her, as it did most of us.

damned

What was your experience?

My wife and nephew came to me and told me about New York. I turned on the TV and saw the 2nd plane hit. I felt kicked in the gut. At the time, I said, "They figured it out"
What I meant was that the muslims had figured out how to work our systems to hurt us in a major way. I have since learned differently, but that's what I thought at the time.

I was first up for the Operating Room to have rotator cuff surgery in California.

Doc asked if I wanted to cancel but when I asked to see his hands and they were steady,
I decided to just go for it, besides the sooner it was repaired, the sooner rehab started and I could get back
to Camp Pendleton.

back then i was only ten years old, but i remember it very clearly. I was fishing after school it was rainy and suddenly there was nobody left on the streets -no people, no cars, nothing- I was out all alone. Back then there allready lived over 40k people here so it was very unusual. I drove back home and my mother was in full panic mode, every tv station showing the same thing even the channels only for kids.

i was expecting for Afghanistan to be bombed to hell for it since thats where bin laden was... but for some reason the first thing they did was attack iraq and saddam Hussein. lol

Absolute horror and worry for those people there. Our fellow Americans were going through a despicable act of violence and terrorism. Why is the tv not showing a tribute to those people right now ?

Here in my little town a lot of people thought this would be the start of WW3. Probably because even the tv channels only for kids up to 12 where showing footage of the twin towers. That wasn't even the case when the berlin wall fell, at least i was told that.

I was in the newsroom and on deadline. Even though I was in Canada and far away from the NY, I had to scramble to find a local angle somehow and get a story in before press time.

We were glued to the computer and TV in the hours that followed. What a horrific day.
