Holy shot 15" or more of rain for Alabama.
Alabama will be the heavy rainfall, with 15 or more inches of rain expected in the southern and coastal portions of the state.

We moved to Gulf Shores ten days ago. Already getting our hurricane card punched. Might be back in Birmingham tomorrow if we wake up and things haven’t changed. Good thing there are no tourists this time of year or evacuating would be a nightmare.

Drive north to cullman.

I'll pm you my cell

Thanks, bro. My folks live in Shelby County. We’re cool if we have to go and it’s looking more likely.

Cullman here.

My family is all south of cullman.

They are all grown men.

Hell I trained them

Raining and blowing pretty good here now. So far, this looks like we’re staying, but I’m gonna talk with the wife when she gets up. I’ve seen a lot worse than this ten times a year in Birmingham with the spring storms, but they say it’s gonna get worse. Nobody in my condo complex a couple miles north of the beach is leaving.

Is your car ground level? That one could get tricky unless you have a multi level garage? Those can be good places if things get bad.
Good luck.

We’re at 29 feet elevation and in a third floor condo that, I’m told, made it through Ivan with just a few shingles blown off. We evacuated one car to Foley, which is about 79 feet elevation, yesterday, and my car is at ground level. We’re surrounded by deep drainage ditches so I’m keeping a a close eye on those. If they start to fill up, we’re going to get off the island.

Another yawner of the storm.

The most interesting thing about it is its slow forward speed.

Cat 1 hurricanes defoliate trees and snap branches.

Don't stand under a tree and you'll be fine.

If you live near a creek, stream, river or any other body of water prone to a flash flood, seek higher ground and you'll be fine.

I will tell you the ditches will fill up and there's a better than good chance you won't get off the island.
Better move would be to sit tight and lose the vehicle.
Maybe think about leaving now. With that amount of rain?
Serious risk of being swept away in a rain flooded road.

I hate this shit. Just spent the summer renovating my old place down here 5 mi from the beach in Gulf Shores. Have some tired metal on the roof that I haven't got to replacing yet. Battened it down the best I could. It is all that stands in the way of a 30K renovation with renters on board. Have Nelly (my Airstream that I live in) out from in the back yard under some old heavy trees it was under and parked in the (relatively) open area in the front. Still have power so far.. For now.

Yeah, they do spit out tornadoes. That's true.

But hurricane twisters are more like water spouts. Not much power behind them, but enough to remove a roof or collapse a wall.

I've never heard of a Cat 1 hurricane spawning a F3, F4, or F5. Have anyone else?

All hurricanes are different.
This one the threat is flooding rain because of slow movement/stalling.
