Tropical Storm Sally could bring ‘dangerous, potentially historic’ flooding to Alabama, 30" + | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 44411968 United States 09/15/2020 05:57 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Teddy is expected to become a major hurricane. So yeah the potential is definitely there for Teddy to be really bad. However at this point the models seem to have Teddy going more northward than eastward. Probably a bigger threat to Bermuda than the US at this point unless the track changes. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 77555432 United States 09/15/2020 06:16 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Raining and blowing pretty good here now. So far, this looks like we’re staying, but I’m gonna talk with the wife when she gets up. I’ve seen a lot worse than this ten times a year in Birmingham with the spring storms, but they say it’s gonna get worse. Nobody in my condo complex a couple miles north of the beach is leaving. Quoting: Revbo™ I don't like the slow movement. Could amplify effects. I take it you're off the ground? Is your car ground level? That one could get tricky unless you have a multi level garage? Those can be good places if things get bad. Good luck. We’re at 29 feet elevation and in a third floor condo that, I’m told, made it through Ivan with just a few shingles blown off. We evacuated one car to Foley, which is about 79 feet elevation, yesterday, and my car is at ground level. We’re surrounded by deep drainage ditches so I’m keeping a a close eye on those. If they start to fill up, we’re going to get off the island. UHMMM BEEN THRU SOME DOWN HERE THEY WILL NOT LET YOU ON ROADS CUZ IF YOU BREAK DOWN BLOK EMMERGENCCY VEHICLES CANT CRODSS BRIDGE WHEN WIIND REACH50 |

But the rain has increased from 24" to 30" for the whole Alabama coast. Quoting: Bush Master The panhandle and Alabama coast is going to be bad af far as rain fall. Another day (20-some hours) of rain yet before landfall, plus a second day of rain after landfall - trees will fall, lights will go out, dunes will wash out to sea. Gulf Shores AL looks nasty right now for a Cat 1. Amazing to watch a tropical system with little steering, hence the crawl. Now that hurricanes sit still on the coast for days. Expect tornadoes to do the same soon. HAAP says it all. debatable. TWC showed days ago that the only steering was up around Kentucky, so as Sally comes ashore and that steering system moves further south, Sally will pick up speed (central-Alabama it looks like) and quickly move back into the Atlantic in the lower mid-Atlantic area. With no steering influence tropical systems move very slowly and wobble about a bit aimlessly, generally forward in the direction they were previously steered into- check out Sally's track the last 2 days. Been increasing in strength the last 2 hours. Just a reminder to the rest of the world: we get at least 5 feet of rain annually. I remember one year we got 8 feet. The elevation isn't very high but the drainage is very good. Unlike metro Houston we didn't pave 50% of the surface area of three counties. There will be flooding but it's nothing we aren't used to. Back in '96 or '97 Hurricane Danny did just what Sally is doing. Some areas got 40+ inches in 3 days, most of it in one day. Back in '14 we had a spring cold front dump 10 inches in my back yard in 2 hours, then 5 more inches that night. Some places are made for super heavy rain and SW Alabama is one of those places. We'll be fine. |

Did you notice 3 of the spaghetti models showed it heading back down to the gulf after 2 days of landfall? That'd be interesting. There is a strong jet coming down the east coast. TWC had said last week that there would be rip currents from Florida to Maine a couple days ago due to that jet + Paulette + Sally. Sally's definitely one of the more unpredictable storms based on the speed. It's generally somewhere between landfall in approx 12 to approx 24 hours. Category Slow is bad. |
