Message Subject Tropical Storm Sally could bring ‘dangerous, potentially historic’ flooding to Alabama, 30" +

Another day (20-some hours) of rain yet before landfall, plus a second day of rain after landfall - trees will fall, lights will go out, dunes will wash out to sea.

Gulf Shores AL looks nasty right now for a Cat 1.

Amazing to watch a tropical system with little steering, hence the crawl.

Now that hurricanes sit still on the coast for days. Expect tornadoes to do the same soon.

HAAP says it all.

debatable.

TWC showed days ago that the only steering was up around Kentucky, so as Sally comes ashore and that steering system moves further south, Sally will pick up speed (central-Alabama it looks like) and quickly move back into the Atlantic in the lower mid-Atlantic area.

With no steering influence tropical systems move very slowly and wobble about a bit aimlessly, generally forward in the direction they were previously steered into- check out Sally's track the last 2 days.

She made 9 changes of direction over 2 days in the space (latitude range comparable to) from about Tampa Bay to Cedar Key FL. That's about 100 miles over land.

Did you notice 3 of the spaghetti models showed it heading back down to the gulf after 2 days of landfall?

That'd be interesting. There is a strong jet coming down the east coast. TWC had said last week that there would be rip currents from Florida to Maine a couple days ago due to that jet + Paulette + Sally.

Sally's definitely one of the more unpredictable storms based on the speed.

It's generally somewhere between landfall in approx 12 to approx 24 hours.

Category Slow is bad.
