For only the second time in recent recorded meteorology, since 1971, five named storms were happening simultaneously earlier today - Rene has since become a remnant. Category two hurricane Sally could be a category three at landfall. The track has shifted east throughout the day, which means that due to the slow speed it could strengthen an extra day over the warm Gulf water, as compared to a landfall near New Orleans and the peninsula sticking out in the Gulf to the southeast.
