MOBILE, AL –On September 5th, police responded a Bass Pro Shop for reports of shots being fired.

In what should have made national news, but did not, the man was stopped by police before he could kill multiple people.

According to the Spanish Fort Police, the man, Robert Smith, who is 38-years-old, allegedly began firing on the busy Bass Pro Shops in the city. According to witnesses in the area, Smith utilized at least two different weapons and fired at least 50 rounds.

BCSO, Spanish Fort PD and other agencies on scene at Bass Pro in Spanish Fort in ref to a subject shooting multiple rounds into the boat and ATV service area. There are no injuries reported at this time. The suspect is in custody. There is no public safety threat.

NBC15 reports that an employee of the Bass Pro, Davis Marrero, was walking in for his shift when he heard gunshots. He said:

“He [Smith] just shot up the entire place. He literally shot at least 50 times. His wife had something to do with it I know because she was throwing ammo at him to actually reload and keep shooting.”

Marrero added that:

“He was shooting two kinds of rifles: an AR-15 and what I’m told was an AR-10, which is also a .308 which is a more powerful round. He didn’t hit anything on top, but he shot through a window right here in the marine area.
