Was this happening in the USA? The driver had a strange accent. He said n----- with a 'r' that might have sounded South-African.

I would be surprised to see any white American reacting like that. Not that I am saying they should. This black guy had no gun, in the US I would not be too sure they wouldn't have one and just shoot you.
