The research (and some Chinese national researchers) went to Canada to avoid the moratorium, and then to Wuhan China where the CCP took over control of the project.

There are three reasons why the US haven’t attacked China over the virus:

1. The US has become almost totally dependent on China for pretty much all essential manufactured goods and pharmaceuticals. Ending that dependency would be disastrous for obvious reasons, and more importantly, it would wreck the gravy train Wall Street have been riding upon due to trade with China and the offshoring of America’s manufacturing base.

2. The US is partly responsible for the release of the virus. Joint Sino-US gain-of-function research should never have been allowed to happen because of the severe dangers it poses;

3. The US really isn’t prepared to prosecute a war against China militarily or otherwise. There is no guarantee the US could win such a war, and there is also a major risk that war could result in an exchange of nuclear weapons. A war would also have the same effect as curtailing all trade with China.

The CCP also have managed to delude themselves into believing that Communism is infallible and superior to any other system of governance on the planet and should be implemented everywhere.
