Anonymous Coward User ID: 78923177 United States 09/19/2020 03:34 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | RIP Jimi. We can look back on him today and appreciate his greatness. His brilliance. His innovation. His creativity. Unmatched. Unmatchable. Hindsight truly is 20/20. But you have to understand the context of the times that he existed in. Back in 1967, if music was being performed live on television, this video below is an example of as much as anyone anywhere ever expected to see. The electric guitar was just another instrument in the band, being strummed along in accompaniment to the song. This was all that was expected. This was normal. [link to youtu.be (secure)] So when people of that era saw THIS on television... Jimi came across as a completely, totally, unquestionably insane to any adult. His songs were accompaniments to the guitar, not the other way around. Not only that, but what he's doing to his guitar could only be seen as utter insanity. If Conway Twitty had done this to his guitar, they would have dragged him off stage in a straight jacket. [link to youtu.be (secure)] So does this mean Jimi Hendrix was insane? Maybe. IDK. Who cares? I just think he didn't give a fuck and didn't have anything to lose by pulling out all the stops. Poverty is all he'd ever known, and there wasn't much further down that life could kick him to. So he just did what the fuck he wanted, without any fucks given to what people expected or wanted to see. If they liked it, great. If not, there's an exit door behind them. Once again, RIP Jimi. |
