My aunts and uncles, even my godmother and godfathers never took any part in my life growing up. I got two Christmas gifts in my childhood and that was it. Now they are old and want me to come visit, after a lifetime of being complete strangers. If you want to have a good relationship with your nephews and nieces, make some effort to cultivate it from their childhood.

I believe the last decade of the human race was the 1990's.

You can never blame kids for the world they are born into. Our generation of people are having the kids that are being around today, and its a failing of that gens parenting skills, and the constantly messed up schooling systems these kids are put in, that leads to this.

So you cannot really blame the kids, its not there fault the world they are born into.

But i do agree, generally speaking kids are far more rude and disrespecting of there elders, then we were as kids.

I was born in '65. My mother made me write thank you notes to my aunts and grandparents. I didn't really know them, and didn't feel close to them. As a child, I just cared about whether some bills were in the card. I hate to say that. I'm not that way now...but I think most kids are like that, no matter how long ago they were a kid.

As for the rudeness...I don't think kids are taught respect today. Many are raised by daycare or school. So it's not just Aunts and Uncles they are rude to. Again, we were TAUGHT respect, and if we didn't respect our elders, if were were saucy, if we 'talked back' we got the belt or the switch...and it worked.

We were all WAY TOO EASY on them.

if I had been given that much at 17 years old, I would have been set on getting started in life -- she didn't even appreciate it and just burned through it in no time
