Yep. There's a very good chance significant election related issues or even the outcome itself will be decided by SCOTUS. And if they haven't put another judge up, it'll end up split 4 to 4.

And then one happens? Election is up in the air and there is no body capable of deciding the outcome.

This could end up being the biggest clusterfuck of a clusterfuck filled year. Such a thing has the potential of being the biggest upset our republic has ever suffered.

The idea sparked fury in the Democratic party, leading numerous prominent figures to voice their support for court “packing,” or filling the nation’s highest bench with more than the original nine judges.

“Mitch McConnell set the precedent. No Supreme Court vacancies filled in an election year. If he violates it, when Democrats control the Senate in the next Congress, we must abolish the filibuster and expand the Supreme Court,” Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) tweeted Friday.
