They are doing the exact thing that the DOJ said would result in reduced federal funding for the city. This isn't just going to be a reduced police issue anymore, it could very likely become a "death of a city" situation. I don't blame the DOJ for the new Seattle designation at all. Trump and he DOJ are 100% correct, the government can't just keep throwing our tax dollars at terribly run cities just to watch that money go right down the drain over and over again. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 79185455 United States 09/23/2020 01:12 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | 100 officers is a big deal. I lived in Ballard for 6 years and calling the police was pointless and I moved out of Ballard in 2015 long before any of the current problems were as severe they are. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72429596 Ballard is a district of Seattle. It was a nice place back in the 90s. So cutting the force by 100 means that there is effectively no policing in Seattle. There already is a police hiring freeze because of covid. So the police are losing most from attrition anyway without this bill. I think the actual loss from this will be about 30 I think was the number and hopefully it will be the cops on the Brady List but seeing as they are the ones protected I do not know what will happen. They need to renegotiate the police union contract or nothing will happen ever. As for no one coming for a 911 call-this is the problem. The police have been fully funded and unable to perform what was expected of them so it has to be adjusted. If you call 911 because someone is trying to break into your house, you need someone to come and not hear them tell you they are busy directing traffic at a game, they will come later.. Well actually they never tell people they are not coming. It is completely normal for a cop to just never come. Sorry, this is not a service we need to pay such a huge percentage of our budget for. It can be changed up. Money needs to be reallocated to be more efficient. I do not know why people on the outside do not understand this! If you were a boss at a company and a group of employees formed a group and dictated to you what they would do or not do and gave themselves big raises to do less and less and not only that, shoot people and cause lots of lawsuits! You would fire them and find some better employees, right? Well the people of the city are the boss of the police. We can get someone else to direct traffic. We can get someone else to handle homeless issues. It has got to change. Today was only the 2020 budget, we already went through this when they passed it weeks ago! today was just overriding the veto from Durkan. It only happened this way because Durkan did not work with them on amending it and cooperating on some common ground. She just sent them a complete disgrace that must have been made by the police union. Hello! We are a city. We have other things in the freaking budget besides police bastards who get paid triple digits. Nope. People dont want it. ESPECIALLY because police dont respond to 9-11 calls. They are useless and sucking the life out of the city. What is left of the city I should say. We sure can't afford to pay that much of the budget to police. It is reality.I have no idea why you all think cities should pay 70% of the entirety of a city budget on police and like 100 dollars on education. Wow, why do we have so many people here who have no way to survive except selling drugs or stealing cars? It is like they have no skills or any ideas.duhhh. You all will be figuring it out eventually when you suffer enough. The Mayor and City Council have to work on 2021 now. It would be really great if the Mayor would work with City Council this time. But who knows what the future of this mayor is. Probably right know the police union is trying to come up with a way to have a better way to keep the status quo and Durkan did as told but failed. I think her days are numbered. If it is Barr that takes her out, I will consider it confirmation that the police union is controlled by the federal government. |

We need to be bigger and set an example. Cities within the US that are well run already have been setting a good example. Those examples are being ignored, so I guess you are saying we should just keep doing nothing and watch taxpayer money continue to go down the drain? Setting an example only works when the person or city in trouble is truly wanting to do better and looking for an example to emulate. Seattle is actually thinking they are the enlightened ones, and they are the only ones that truly care about minorities and the downtrodden. The leadership in Seattle is just as clueless and dangerous to the average citizen as Cuomo, DeBlasio, Newsom, etc. |

Sure we can get forceful. So can they when it's our turn. |

It was my theory a couple years ago that all these Libturd cities wanted to encourage homelessness in order to push for Universal Basic Income. |

The cops came into my apt and they were very very ready to take me in. But they were ok with me (I begged them not to knowing they might). fwiw like I said. Even offered me a number for some help. Just my experience. I've had worse with them prior to that a few years. |
