Is Asteroid 2018 VP1 Actually 6 Miles Wide?
My previous calculations of asteroid 2018 VP1 agree with NASA's assessment that there is a non-zero but still very small (less than a 1%) chance that this asteroid will hit earth this November. See my previous thread for details:
Thread: This Asteroid Could Hit Earth on November 2nd!

This news report claims 2018 VP1 is actually 6 miles wide, instead of about 6 feet wide as indicated by the measurements made back in 2018:

Let's see if it's true that it's actually 6 miles wide, and let's see if it's on course for an impact with earth!

Tomorrow night I'll also be tracking the close approach of 2020 SW, if the weather allows. It's another small asteroid, and it will be passing just about 28,000 km from the center of the earth. That's closer than our geostationary satellites. Check back tomorrow for that!

So, Astro, what would you do if it was set to be the cause of an ELE? Sit back and get wasted? Rape and murder? Post on GLP?

Post to GLP, of course. While getting wasted. Not so much into the raping and murdering part, but I'd have my AR-15 strapped to me in case someone else tries either of those.

Thank you Astromut. Awesome as always. :-)
I believe in science NOT religion. Giving me bad karma for that, is anti-religious (you're passing judgement) I am just a man. Of no significance. Who found religion to be full of lies, and wrong doing, conflicted teachings
I understand microwave communications.

You're the only person at GLP who I make an effort to focus on when it comes to astronomical info. Everyone else is full of bullshit and superstition.

For you, this thread makes me think of one titled with something like, "Is Santa Claus Really Living in the North Pole?" Or "Does the Easter Bunny Really Lay Candy Eggs?"

Good choice! I think I'd be doing the same.

That looks like an awesome movie. I think they pushed it into 2021 to be released.

I know it's silly, but apparently a group claiming to be CBS said it was 6 miles wide. Shrug. Better to get out in front of it than to let it fester.

So Astro, does the size of the asteroid affect it's trajectory? In other words if there were two asteroids, one 6' wide, the other 6 miles wide, is the 6 mile one more likely to strike earth cause it's mass is being pulled more?
