Re: Is Asteroid 2018 VP1 Actually 6 Miles Wide?
6 miles wide is an ELE
It can kill all the life in the planet
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79152276

Not true

Depends on speed.

A grain of sand is an ELE if its moving at 200,000 mph
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78996756

That's figurative. In reality, the max potential that can be released is the total energy potential of all matter in an object.

No grain of sand would ever get up to even a MOAB absent traveling a fair percentage of the speed of light, and at the speed of light it might release a megaton.

Re: Is Asteroid 2018 VP1 Actually 6 Miles Wide?
My previous calculations of asteroid 2018 VP1 agree with NASA's assessment that there is a non-zero but still very small (less than a 1%) chance that this asteroid will hit earth this November. See my previous thread for details:
Thread: This Asteroid Could Hit Earth on November 2nd!

This news report claims 2018 VP1 is actually 6 miles wide, instead of about 6 feet wide as indicated by the measurements made back in 2018:

Let's see if it's true that it's actually 6 miles wide, and let's see if it's on course for an impact with earth!

No because there is no space with floating fairtale rocks. There are no meteorites or asteroids. There are no planets or solid stars. There is a firmament and the earth is flat.

IF it should hit earth, please promise not to make a prediction afterwards, it would be somewhat pointless to make a prediction after it hit.

If it hits.

Sounds like the closer this asteroid gets to earth, the more the official story changes. That's never a good sign.

Re: Is Asteroid 2018 VP1 Actually 6 Miles Wide?
Been here before you were Astroshill and I have never known you to say there is a comet/asteroid that might hit. Thousands of threads through the years stating an asteroid is coming to which your response has always been “No there isn’t”

What about this has peaked your interest and 6ft - 6 miles is hella difference why or how do they determine size? If it’s close enough to match a path that may collide with us in November then this must have been on a watch list. I assume since 2018? 6 miles wide is huge? That would be a world ender or am I far off the mark. My space knowledge is Mainstream NASA documents and you.

Thanks Astro.

So Astro, does the size of the asteroid affect it's trajectory? In other words if there were two asteroids, one 6' wide, the other 6 miles wide, is the 6 mile one more likely to strike earth cause it's mass is being pulled more?
 Quoting: Busterhymen

my guy astro is using clickbait to get views. if it was 6 miles wide and there was any chance it would hit earth you would see it all over the news 24x7 from the day they found it.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79271299

That’s right, they would want to cause mass panic and watch the country burn in the 8 weeks until it’s arrival, Think about it. They would not tell us shit. Even if we can see it they will deny it or spray chemicals to block out our view. TPTB would make sure they were safe and sound way before we get to die. We would know with about five days to go.

It will impact length wise against the atmosphere and then shatter apart into a bunch of smaller pieces upon entry.

A 6'-asteroid "impact" is a total non-event. It will break up and never even touch the Earth.

The data hasn't changed, but if you were using an orbit viewer that uses 2-body methods it will give a different answer depending on the epoch of the elements. In my first video I warned against using orbit viewers like that but most YouTube channels continue to do that anyway. The orbit viewer on the JPL website has a disclaimer right above it that warrants specifically not to use it for planetary encounter circumstances in big bold letters. People continue to ignore the disclaimer anyway. BPEarthwatch is one of the worst offenders, for example.

No not really, just like dropping a hammer and a feather on the moon it doesn't matter how much mass it has, it will continue to fall at the same rate. A more dense asteroid will not be affected by non-gravitational forces as much (like solar radiation pressure), but these forces are negligible over short time frames anyway.
