venice beach was like that in the 1980s already. i lived in santa monica 2 years ago and it was like that...pffff

How soon until the rest of the country can be rid of Coastal California /Oregon /Washington? AND then imposing border controls so "THEY" can't come here?

They are always claiming that THEY are the economic engine of the entire country, so let them be their own country and provide for THEIR own defense! (of course in addition to visitation /immigration restrictions we should also impose economic sanctions on them wrt high tech like we are doing to China)

My kids and I used to visit in the early 90's. It was fun. Remember the outdoor gym and the muscle builders? The art, the music they mention in the video. I also remember the sand sculptures.

Haven't been there since.

I felt safe around there in the early 90's. Of course there were weirdos, but they didn't get in your face and harass you. I was just in San Jose this weekend. Downtown. A colleague of mine was chased into the lobby of the hotel by a homeless guy calling him, "white m-f'er" and threatening to kill him. Californians just put up with this nonsense.

I tried to run away there in the 70’s too. Never made it past Des Moines. Long story but Jesus led me home. I was 14. I thank the Lord everyday. I didn’t end up in calif.

Wow that's really depressing. How are they ever gonna be able to get a handle on that many people! Where do you start?

#1 They need housing for them somewhere, containers or yurts or anything cheap like that and showers and toilets nearby. There is plenty of cheap land inland like near Barstow and Edwards AFB. Right now the government blows all the homeless money for expensive apartments and temporary hotel stays which does not help anyone long term. Those with serious drug problems need treatment or permanent banishment away from the rest of civilization.

Stop drama king. The only thing tweekers kill in venice is real estate value. I have in Venice since 1968. It was worse when Charles Manson trolled under the pagodas... A hippie on Acid is more dangerous than a meth head in all reality. Both are bad though being mentally based in flat reality.

Ive lived near both these for a while, a couple months each: golden gate park, hollywood and Venice.

How the world sees these locations is very different than reality. All three locations were unique, but then became destinations for tourists.

Lazy tourists bring $ and the homeless tend to converge to places with tourists.

When people get so 'sad' for Venice, they are comparing it to some ideal in their head created by a movie or marketing campaign. At least Fletch captured the more legit Venice past its hey day. My dad lived there in the 70s, we revisited in the 80s and 90s and old residents were already shaking their heads at the change.

Last year I was waiting for a friend near the muscle beach gym and a Midwestern dude in his 40s showed up with a bag to work out. My heart broke for him a bit. If he was thinking that was anything like Pumping Iron in 2019....lol...no way.

We need asylums back, or a humane euphoric drug campaign where they can go chill and stay high till they die.

One last thing: I laugh at these guerrilla youtube camerafolk.

They zoom tight on much of these camps as rhey can. Huge tilt in that vid and I only gave it 8s so they dont monetize. Brillisnt plan: shock and awe for the people who are too afraid to even visit here anymore.

It sucks to see but 100% believe me when I say that SoCal is still a nice place to hang out and live if you don't visit all the tourist spots and you aren't broke.
