Rock and Rule (1983, 1987) / an obscure post-apocalyptic animated rock & roll film! | |

The old VHS copies looked to command some high prices as the film was developing into cult status. Here's an old trailer :) [link to youtu.be (secure)] Reminds me a bit of a poor man's Heavy Metal (which is absolutely awesome BTW) Sorry, that message is no longer in the database. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79010667 I have been searching for a copy for over 30 years, good luck. Well, I used some net-fu after getting home from work, and I found a 1080p torrent of this movie (not too hard to find), but I'm not sure yet if it is the original Canadian version. (crossing fingers) There's also what looks like possibly a lower quality copy on the Internet Archive for posterity. I'm still going to dig around a bit and see what else turns up. edit: haven't tested to see if this works, but there was a mention of someone going to attempt to upload the movie to VEOH, and it looks like it is still there: [link to www.veoh.com (secure)] Here's a behind the scenes making of video of the movie: [link to www.youtube.com (secure)] Last Edited by AkashicRecord® on 09/29/2020 10:02 PM Sorry, that message is no longer in the database. |

Everything that I'm finding, even up to Blu-Ray remasters is all the edited shit, totalilng 77 minutes.. It seems pretty hard to find the actual "original" version, especially since the master was lost in a fire, apparently. With the edited version, a character was completely overdubbed with someone else, and a lot of "adult" references have been removed. That's a shame, because it seems like this Canadian broadcast version is almost the superior one... edit: I'm actually going to watch this Blu-Ray remaster in just a few minutes. I watched the English 'hacked' version last night, (excellent video restoration and transfer BTW) but later I found an incredibly decent copy of the 'real' Canadian version, and WOW does it show its superiority, even in the first few seconds of the intro... (its the small things that really count.) For one, the intro is vastly longer and it actually makes sense, instead of replacing it with something asinine about cats, rats, and dogs; obviously that change was to attempt to explain the characters oddities (probably due to confused screening audiences), but WTF...crucial story material was omitted here!! I don't think anyone out there is seeding this proper, so I may have to step up to the plate here. Feisty rock lovers against the big evil rock star Mok, voiced by Iggy Pop. His theme song is by Lou Reed and is pretty rad actually. Yes there's minutes of deleted scenes in here, I'm comparing the two side-by-side and it deviates very quickly; deleted "sex" scenes, drug use, the works! There are also some cuts spliced in that were not mastered, so it's all here...probably the best thing surving of the lost original workprint. (This seems to be a 1.85 anamophic and not a shitty pan-and-scan.) The original opens with a longer text intro and mentions an "ancient satanic code" and a quest for immortality. Not the same caliber as Heavy Metal, but it has its moments. Mok sure looks like Steven Tyler does now. Another of that genre is American Pop. |

This was back when there was no PG-13 rating, so the line between PG and R was pretty big.. Sorry, that message is no longer in the database. |

As I recall he did the animated (never really and properly finished) Lord of the Rings movie from the 80s, the one that ends as the group meets the Balrog. Until Peter Jackson's version it was the only thing close to a decent interpretation of the LOTR books. Also he did the 80s videodisc 'games' Dragon's Lair and Space Ace. |
