Consider this: those surgical masks, the blue ones Dr's wear, are used to keep a sterile environment clean. They are not for filtering the air you breath. Conversely, the N95 masks are meant to filter the air for the wearer, not keep the environment sterile; particularly the ones with the valve that lets air escape. And a cloth just keeps the wearer from spitting on things.

So just how effective do you think these masks are? 5%? 10%?

People know it's real - they just don't think it's a cause for alarm in people who are not exceedingly old or infirm, and for most it is not. Some of you yahoos seem to think that masks will actually keep you from becoming infected - the intent was always just to flatten the curve by spreading out the infections over a length of time. Next time you go into surgery, please request the physicians don’t wear masks. They are largely useless after all.

You missed the gist of the post. If people want to protect themselves, they wear one type of mask. If they want to protect the environment, they wear another type of mask. That's not ever mentioned anywhere. Why not??
