This will backfire.

If a lot of senators get sick, it lets Republicans speed up the confirmation process for national security reason, possibly skipping the questioning altogether and going straight to voting.

If enough senators get sick to recess the senate, Trump can do recess appointment.

If Trump gets incapacitated or worse, that definitely justfies a national emergency declaration, and President Pence can suspend congress, as allowed by the Constitution during emergency, and recess appointment Barrett.

Assuming non of the above happens, at least the spotlight is on Trump now and not on the confirmation anymore, letting Republican senators in swing states up for reelection vote for Barrett under the radar.

The "Hit Job" needs to be investigated at the highest levels with extreme Prejudice.
