Take her to a gun range that rents handguns. Rent all the ones that have a grip suitable for her hand. Buy whichever she shoots better with.

Springfield Armory hellcat...

The Springfield Armory Hellcat is a polymer frame striker-fired micro-compact semi-automatic pistol sold in the United States by Springfield Armory, Inc., and manufactured in Croatia by HS Produkt. Introduced in September 2019, it is chambered in 9×19mm Parabellum and intended for concealed carry, with 11- and 13-round magazines. The Hellcat was named 2020 Handgun of the Year by American Rifleman magazine.

You wont be disappointed! In addition...

The OSP ("Optic Sight Pistol") version of the Hellcat has a removable plate on the slide, which allows a red dot sight to be installed.

Right-on!

I’m having a problem getting details on the handgun selection at the nearest indoor range. I don’t think the dude know a whole lot about firearms. He just says “We have pistols and rifles” when I ask what they’ve got. I’ll try again tomorrow and see if I can get a different person on the line.

Myninstructer said sigs are very durable and he only got 12000 rounds put of it. He said his glock which he hated at first got over 200 000 rounds. Glock is cheqper but more durable?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75958720

I don't own a glock but I hear they can be prone to jam via several gun forums but some people love them and swear by them.

Come to think of it the same can be said for almost every gun on the market!
 Quoting: CrsCrpr

I swear by my Glock. It’s a gen2 and I’ve carried this baby for almost 20 years. Never failed to feed or fire. Never jammed. Revolver before that.

Love these suggestions. Some of y’all are mentioning a Sig. lol I had a premonition that she’d hold a Sig and be like “Oh hellz yes!” (Or maybe a Berretta).

I love SigSauer too. I just carry a Glock b/c it’s a pound lighter, parts are everywhere and it’s always with me so I’ll subtract that extra pound :-)

Thanks for the responses!

1. What ever it is, it will probably only hold 6 rounds. 2. The smaller pistols usually are hard to chamber a round for a girl so make sure she can handle that. 3. Quality manufacturer,
a broken/jammed gun at the wrong time is catastrophic.

Glock is out b/c I want more safeties.

Springfield XD is out b/c she tried her brother’s and it was a bit too “blocky.”

Seeking suggestions. We’ve got two gun stores lined up for her to come in and try a few. I’ve got specific names to ask for — guys that have agreed to get several out for her.

We’re up for pretty much anything that she can carry (she is petite and has small hands). A Wilson Combat rig is likely too $$$.

TIA!

I purchased a Taurus TX22 on the advice of another poster here a few weeks back. It's only a .22 caliber but it comes with two 16 round magazines and my wife has no problems firing it.
 Quoting: CrsCrpr

There are a lot of people that (mistakenly) attribute the efficiency of a gun to its caliber. A .50 desert eagle is useless if you don't hit your target. On the other hand, a .22 can be deadly in the hands of a trained shooter.

I have an early Colt 380 that's dimensionally the same.
She may have an issue with her pinky finger having
no grip. Personally Im okay with it.

They make extended mags for a full hand grip which
holds an extra round or two.

Also, Colt recently reintroduced their 380 Govt with longer grip.

you said safety was required but
it's got to fit her hands
she has to be able to load it
and the magazine
and she has to be able to cycle the action

"Glock is out because I want more safeties"... re-read that statement.

THAT could be the most deadliest thing I have ever read. ONE: the SAFETY is your finger/her finger in this case. Firearms don't just decide to go BANG.

TWO: Hey, Dude's daughter reading this... DON'T listen to your Dad. When a bad guy wants to commit harm to you, you don't have time to ask him to wait while you unlock "all those safeties" your Dad wants you to have.

Get a good holster, not some POS $20, learn how to draw and get on target FAST. Thumb safeties are one more thing to remember when the heat is on.

Glocks and others are used everyday... DON'T listen to your Dad on this on.

3913 is decent but you specified a safety,
pretty sure it's double action and uses
a decocker instead of a safety.

I think Beretta has a compact version of model 92
 Quoting: AggregateThreat

Berettas are sweet! I used to have a 92 and bought it because the slide was so much easier to pull back than a Browning (for example). As a woman, I simply didn't have the strength in my hands to pull the slide back on a Browning - Beretta was amazing!

The S&W M&P Shield 9mm is nice as well.

Walther PPS, PPQ as small concealed carry guns.

There exists a small version of the P99 with smaller mag and grip that also comes with very decent safety features for less experienced or "stressed" users, not GLOCK wielding Pros that spent day on the range.

Walther P99-AS (Anti-Stress) series
The first round has a tougher trigger pull than the rest. Also you can uncock the loaded weapon with a simple push button, still fires when trigger gets pulled trough.
I like it.
