Attitude of Gratitude
=================
There are times in life when each of us has the wind knocked out of us and, through hardship, the light within our souls may be challenged. Often it's through the brightness of another that the weakened spirit is rekindled. That deep appreciation, which fills our hearts when we are the beneficiary of love and service, is gratitude.
According to Wikipedia, "gratitude is the substance of a heart ready to show appreciation, or thankfulness; it is not simply an emotion, which involves a pleasant feeling that can occur when we receive a favor or benefit from another person but rather the combination of a state of being and an emotion; often accompanied by a desire to thank them, or to reciprocate for a favour they have done for you."
Does gratitude helps us heal? Yes. And it brings us joy and happiness. Truly, as we express it, we bless the lives of all those around us. Wikipedia reports that "gratitude may also serve to reinforce future prosocial behavior in benefactors." Studies show that those who express gratitude have a greater chance of receiving more in return. A French proverb says, "Gratitude is the memory of the heart." It has also been said that gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but it is the parent of all the others. Anthony Robbins said, "When you are grateful, fear disappears and abundance appears."
Is it possible that becoming grateful is the answer to overcoming relationship blocks and living happy lives? A good many experts agree-the answer is yes! Gratitude is high- frequency energy. It attracts all that is good. When we're thankful, somehow, miraculously, life works for us.
Can we be grateful for everything and everyone? Absolutely. Even the villains of our lives offer us gifts of knowledge, peace, and reconciliation. A movie without a villain is boring, and a life without challenges and enemies is dull as well. By developing an attitude of gratitude and giving thanks for everything that happens, we are better able to move forward in life, realizing that every step forward is a step that helps us obtain something bigger and better.
For this week's homework, take time to focus on thoughts and feelings of gratitude. Universally, we've all been blessed in countless ways and as you focus on these blessings, you'll find yourself feeling good. Also, pick up a notebook-or even a blank sheet of typing paper-and place it in a convenient and noticeable place. Every time you see it and have a chance, jot down what you're feeling grateful for. Focus your thought energy all week on the good things in life-all that you have to be thankful for. I promise-as you do so, you'll find yourself having one of your very best weeks!
Many Blessings,
