A: Government not responding; won't respond.
B: When people do defend themselves, they are the ones arrested.
C: This is a lose-lose scenario. Either there is an event that gives justification to more gun control, even seizure, or this keeps escalating and neither the government nor the people will do anything while innocents are slowly oppressed and tyrannized by their fellow citizens and the government.

Either way, we all lose.
I don't see this getting better unless we have an existential crisis that unifies the country against a common foreign enemy.
