He wasn't just any old teacher, but he was the head teacher. [link to ruqqus.com (secure)] If this doesn't show how poor the standards are with these losers, then nothing can. |

That's mostly because new English teachers are college aged Brits and behave horrendously when they go abroad. Drinking all night, showing up horribly hungover and disheveled, etc. They go to another country where they are treated as "experts" because they can speak English. For many, it's their first job, and instant expert. Along with this comes enourmous ego problems. They are not respected at all where I live. |

Don’t listen to the replies, it’s a great gig and a fun place to live. I was there for 10 years. Many foreigners teach English on the side it’s an easy gig but they work other jobs. But there are companies that hire foreigners and they pay you a salary and include housing. I used to make back in the 90s 50$ an hour per student as a side job. Usually only once a week for each class, like on Saturdays. Was easy money. Jeremiah 33:3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not. The Bible could say more than it does BUT The Bible doesn't say more than it says. The Bible says what it means and means what it says. [link to www.jesus-is-savior.com] |

The story was that a Florida Man teacher at a small school couldn't pronounce it. EI is not a "large school" at all. It was not an old story, but it's very close to the way the teachers work there. Most are dumber than a sack of mallets. |

They dont get paid much, generally have a bad rep, and work long and often odd hours (classes on Saturday, Sunday and at night are quite common). Japan is expensive, so you'll be living in a dogbox, with likely limited discretionary income to travel and lead a good life. The only way I would say do it, is if you just wanted experience and use it to look for a better job. |

That happens almost everywhere. The problem is that the teachers are for the most part plain dumb. They are exploited, and used and don't realize that they can be replaced by practically anyone with a pulse. The ALTs, TOEICs, TEFLs, TOEFLs, "Business English" ones are the worst because they actually believe they have some kind of skill. It takes special kind of dumb. They ARE dancing monkeys. |
